Same as always unless we force Romo to pay back his signing bonus.

Which we reportedly won't.
Even then, that would be unrelated to the cap.
Retirement will work the same as trade or release cap-wise.

Some reports are the Cowboys were getting ready to release him so he can retire and go into broadcasting ??? That makes no sense .. why release him ? Just have him retire and we obtain his rights , releasing him and we don't ..
I will believe it when Tony says it in a presser :. Could be another move to force another team to blink then trade

Local guys(Archer) and the national guys are reporting it.

Only reason we would still release him is if we are hell bent on making him a June 1st release to spread the cap room.

Unless a team is planning an unprecedented trade post June 1st...we won't need that extra money. We can still free up money from Witten if we have to (which was the purpose of his restructure).

If Romo retires under contract, we have the right and a great argument to force him to pay back the signing bonus that we already gave him through the restructures.

I believe it's 10 million dollars.

The team is reportedly not going to do it.

The Tony Romo saga has ended.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback has opted to retire, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. He is retiring in order to pursue opportunities in football broadcasting, Rapoport reported on Good Morning Football on Monday. Romo has received offers to work for CBS and Fox.

Around The NFL will have more on this story shortly.

Game over. Good call Tony.

This changes nothing really. Dallas still holds his rights even with retirement. The TV thing gives him a guaranteed job in the event no team comes calling later.
Not if they release him as being reported.
