Dallas Cowboys Should Kick the Tires On Tim Jennings

I wrote earlier today about the impact losing top corner Orlando Scandrick will have on the Dallas Cowboys‘ playoff chances. Without him, the defensive secondary lacks the depth necessary to compete against the high-flying offenses in the NFC East. It puts a tremendous amount of pressure on Morris Claiborne and Byron Jones to perform at an extremely high level, which could be too much for the young guys.
On Sunday afternoon, there were a number of NFL teams who got an early jump on the first round of cuts. By Tuesday, every team in the NFL has to be down to a 75-man roster, and instead of making certain players wait an extra two days to find out their fate, teams are giving them an opportunity to find work elsewhere quicker.
One of the most surprising cuts on Sunday was cornerback Tim Jennings, who was axed by the Chicago Bears after spending the last five years with the team. During those five seasons, Jennings intercepted 16 passes and forced six fumbles, but last season he didn’t have any interceptions and only one forced fumble. With the Bears running a 3-4 defense now under new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, scheme fit was also a likely cause for his release.
Although I’m sure Jennings will have his choice of teams to play for, he would make the most sense for the Cowboys. Not only will he help with the depth at corner, but he also played three seasons in Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli‘s system while Marinelli was the defensive coordinator in Chicago from 2010 to 2012. During those three seasons, Jennings accumulated 12 interceptions in only 46 games...
