according to this article, the surgery was a "simple clean out" and really not a big deal. money was almost definitely a factor in this as well as scheme fit

When he was released they had him on chicago sports radio. Unfortunately that's what I deal with a lot. Anyway, with new coach and GM and a different scheme they didn't feel like he was a fit based on contract. That's the story Jennings was selling of course.
