The Dallas Cowboys have signed former SFA running back Gus Johnson.

According to SFAJacks.com, Johnson will be joining the 'Boys just in time for the start of training camp.

Cowboys fans might remember Johnson from just a month ago when he tried out for the team during minicamp. Johnson left a solid impression on the coaching staff and front office during the three-day tryout to earn a new NFL deal with the Cowboys. Terms of his contract have not yet been released.

Johnson was the 2014 SLC Player of the Year and a four-time All-American for the Lumberjacks out of the Southland Conference in Texas. At his pro day in April, Johnson ran a 4.62 40-yard dash. But at 5-10, 224 lbs., the running back's game is built on power.

For SFA, Johnson rushed for a total of 3,892 yards and 51 touchdowns in his four-year career. He also piled up 57 receptions for 419 yards and one receiving touchdown. Check out some of his highlights in the video feature embedded below.

Kind of makes the Williams departure more viable.

They may need another RB still for all the camp reps.
An injured Williams wasn't helping with that, obviously.

Don't like his lack of speed. Unless used for short yardage, but it's a give away on the play call if he comes in. If he were to make the team. But don't see it at this point.
Where is the trade off for Williams. Unless Williams knee was not going to allow him to pass a physical or conditioning before TC started. But didn't they do away with the conditioning test?

Wrong mentality brother.

Washed up feature backs are useless. If someone is fighting for a spot, they need to contribute on special teams. Guys who spent their careers as #1 backs usually just fade away as they never developed the skills that keep 2s and 3s on the roster.

That is true.

Don't we already have a Washed up feature back?

If I'm being sold how dominant this line is..... I would think even washed up running backs who ran a 4.2 should atleast look more than washed up behind this line.

Another camp body that seemed to impress someone to bring him along to Cali with the team..

You might wanna check out the Gus Johnson video if you haven't done so. He looks to have made some pretty nifty runs there. Nothing wrong with taking a looksee in camp. You never know when a guy like him might prove himself to be better than anyone expected. He obviously has some quickness and power going for him. That's pretty much what we've been lacking currently in the RB corps.

And me, I'd prefer to score on a young udfa. RB, if any position, is one where young guys are the better bet than the well known retread.

My number one guy to be brought here is Christine Michaels, if he can be had for cheap enough. Number 2 is Chris Johnson. He is older but he still looked pretty damn good last year. I think he would be pretty solid behind this line.

I remember a walk-on from Texas A&I, who was just too small and slow to be drafted. He now resides in the Hall of Fame.

John Randle...at least listen to the record before declaring that it won't be a hit.
