As a side note, I have had the pleasure of meeting both Randy White and Ed "Too Tall" Jones and actually sang the song to both of them. Both got a kick out of it, but neither heard or remembered the song.

I am looking for the Dallas Cowboys song I have had stuck in my head for the past 25+ years. I have been looking for a copy of the song for the past 10 or more years and have not found anything. I remember as a kid in the early 1980's listening to this song on a 45 on my record player, it has a country music twang to it and is sung by a male with a southern sounding voice. I will be happy to sing the song to help jar someones memory if needed. I just want to find a copy of this song to buy, download, steal, or what ever, someone PLEASE help me. To the best of my memory the song goes like this...

My woman thinks I don't love her 'cause I'm never around
She don't understand I'm a workin' man, and when I get off is when I like to get down
Now don't get me wrong when you hear this song, I ain't cheatin' or ruinin' my name
It's just that every Sunday I can't stay away from that damn Dallas Cowboys game

Now just give me a chance to see Tony D dance and let me watch Harvey Martin a while
I love to watch Ed Jones break the other teams bones, once I even saw Tom Landry smile
And number 41 the ladies love his buns and Rafael kicks me out of my chair
And if the Dallas Cowboys play in heaven you know I'm gonna be there

I hope that Philadelphia ain't thinkin' about commin' to town
cause when Everson Walls gets his hands on the ball, they gonna wish they'd kept it on the ground
and you can tell ole Ron to get his armor on and get ready for World War 3, cause when Randy White knocks out his lights hes gonna wish he'd never heard of big D.

Cause the Super Bowl just ain't the Super Bowl........ If the Dallas Cowboys ain't there.

It is not the Charlie Pride song.
Info / Players in the song.... this info makes the song be from 1981, 1982 or 1983.

Dallas Players / Coach
Tony Dorsett 1977-1987
Harvey Martin 1973-1983
Ed "Too Tall" Jones 1974-1989
Tom Landry 1960-1988
#41... not sure if this was a player or just fit the song
Rafael Septien 1978-1986
Everson Walls 1981-1989
Randy White 1975-1988
Eagles Player Ron Jaworski (played for Eagles 1977-1986)

I may be mistaken but to my knowledge it was only a music video composed by NFL Films and put on the end of the 1992 Super Bowl season video, no lyrics were changed but highlights were spliced into the video that made certain verses align with on field action.

One example being "Would've had a side kick with a funny name..." the video then cut to Aikman running through the tunnel, the camera fixated on the text written on the back of his jersey and so forth or "California is full of whiskey, women and gold" this lyric was accompanied by Dallas' venture into the Pasadena Rose Bowl for their championship triumph.

OK, so this thread is three years old, but since someone bumped it, I'll reply anyway.

The "Should've Been A Cowboys" version WITH the lyrics changed was used as a Monday Night Football intro. I still have it on videotape somewhere. It was a short version, maybe only one or two verses, so Toby Keith might never have recorded a full version of it. But it did have different lyrics, such as "just like Roger and Troy" instead of Gene and Roy.

By the way, here is the highlight video you were talking about, with the original song --

Still not the one that I am looking for. It was from 1980, 81, or 82. The songs chorus goes:

Now just give me a chance to see Tony D dance and let me watch Harvey Martin awhile

nice shot.

Is that it? I have no idea.

Just did some online searching.

Sutton passed away and I see no sign of Odessa Records anymore so it's probably not going to be available in mp3 forma anywhere.

This is a must have for me!!! I have spent years tracking down this song and keep finding lots of others instead. However and whatever it takes I must get a copy of this. I do not know what happened to the old 45 I had of it, it has been 25 years since I have seen it, and since I have heard the song. My wife and friends think that I am crazy but it is a great childhood and Cowboys memory of mine. Just so we are on the same page, it is not the Charlie Pride song, or the football card song. It is the one that I have listed out the words for...... "My woman thinks I don't love her...... Just give me a chance to see Tony D dance..... If the Dallas Cowboys play in Heaven...." I have searched these and other forums and have not found the right song, so if you do have a copy of it I would love to get a copy. Thanks again.

I do not know the name... Sunday Cowboy??? Maybe and I do not know who sings it either. Seems that they use to play it on KVIL back in 81,82,83. That is what makes it hard to find. I know for sure it was on 45 record but I am pretty sure that it was just a Dallas area thing, not a national song. I do not know where I got the record or who put it out. Thanks again for all your help, it is nice to know that there are nice folks out there willing to take a little time and go the extra mile.

how about this one, was it this one?
With the Cowboys set to kick off the regular season in Cleveland Sunday, there really is no better time to get in the mood -- even better if your flavor of football soundtrack skews toward the triumphant exultations of the marching band. Because back in 1960, RCA Victor released an album called The National Football League Marching Songs, on which Don Meredith intros the little-heard "Go Dallas Cowboys," catchy title. The album can be yours for the low, low price of ... five dollars? That's all?

Or, even better, the greatness of WFMU's Beware of the Blog today posted the entirety of the record, broken down into individual MP3s for those who can do without "The Eagles' Victory Song." Because, really, to hell with Philadelphia and anyone who likes them, especially this feller. Really, John, "cretins"? You stay classy. --Robert Wilonsky

or this one ;
Fred Goodwin says:
With all due respect to Mr. Meredith, that was never Dallas' real fight song.

You can hear the real one at:

"Go You Dallas Cowboys, Go!"

Longtime Cowboys fans will recognize this as the theme used by Coach Landry for his weekly show back in the late 60s and early 70s, before he used "Fanfare for the Common Man".

As much as I like "Fanfare", I wish Coach Landry had kept the official fight song.

For that matter, I wish Jerry would bring back "Cowboy Joe" (the logo on the pennant above) -- Rowdy is horrible and that abomination "Huddles" was even worse.
