How do you put Dak out for a trade to test the waters without it getting to the press?
What does that do to Dak's psyche about playing quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys?
What does that do to the team's opinion of Dak, the coaching staff and the management?
If you are sending out feelers, what does that do to the ultimate worth of Dak? Does it undercut his real value because people will wonder why he is on the market?
If you find no takers, what kind of contract do you believe he will agree to after you tried to sell him on the open market?
These questions should be asked about every player that magically hits the Let's Trade Fill In The Blank threads on this site.
It appears many get these notions thinking other teams will give away a fortune for the player they wish was gone for whatever reason. Enamored with riches beyond believe, no thought to all the ramifications is listed and thought out.
TO was a really good player. Maybe even great on some days. But he had baggage of self esteem issues and once his constant passive aggressive behavior wore people down he turned on them as if they were enemies. Dallas let him go when he still had value. We can argue about how much, but when it became evident his downside was far worse than his upside, he was jettisoned.
Same with Dez Bryant. When his value did not live up to his heartache, he was sent packing.
Same with Antonio Bryant.
Dak has done nothing to cause people to look at him as anything but a leader and team player. His ceiling is still unknown, even by the ones who profess they do know. He is coming into his fourth year. All the whining about the greatness of Romo because of his stats and if he only had a team around him is the same for Dak. Dak has put up astounding stats. Dak protects the ball at all costs, up to and including not throwing for a great number of yards per game normally. He may do this because he doubts his accuracy. he may do this because he is still waiting for the game to slow down for him. But in this respect he is the anti-Romo as far as picks go.
I understand what signing a new contract means if he fails. But trading this guy away for magic beans means more than a few years of searching for the right guy.
How is this not obvious?
