Dallas To Experiment with new LB position "The OTTO"

Yeah, the descriptions seem more like a Vic Beasley, Dante Fowler, possibly Bud Dupree.

Von Miller types.

Davis Tull is also another option and should be available in 4-5 round range. Multiple double digit sack seasons plus his measurables are very similar to Vic Beasley and Von Miller.

A Beyoncé post will always get a like from me.

Could explain the reported interest in Bernardrick McKinney.

I remember reading somewhere that the FO views McKinney as a DE in the NFL. I think Brugler said that.

Anyway, LB in the 1st-2nd seems like a good possibility.

Oh, OK. It's true because a random blogger called rabblerousr says so. Go it.

Maybe they were saying auto position and talking about their video equipment. Manual has really been holding back our video crew for years.

Actually this makes zero sense for the team to want to use Lee in this spot. And nowhere do i read the Cowboys are going to use Lee here, it just explains the LB is like a SAM with DE like duties. This would be more of a fit for Wilber. Or a player like Eli Harold or Nate Orchard.

If they are looking for DE traits, McKinney.

Squatch! I found him! I think he's over there at the Henderson's! Let's get the torches and the pitchforks!
Squuaaaaaaaaaatch!

This is not a new position. This is a Jack or whatever hybrid terminology you want to call it although the OTTO will move around more. This is nothing new although you may see an increase in snaps outside the 'base' defense of the traditional 4-3. Some colleges have used a hybrid LB/SS/DE player for years.

What you want is someone who can cover, rush and tackle and I mention Watson earlier this week for a role like that in addition to the Nickel. This is what they wanted Carter for although the use of hybrids has increased.
Clemson has been doing this for some time. They also use a "star" position which is like linebacker/strong safety hybrid

Yes Bruce carter will finally get to rush the passer. Oh wait....

This thread title is misleading, there is nothing "new" here................they took the old JACK linebacker and gave it some new stupid name that even the article says nobody knows what it stands for and are saying its new.

This has been used by multiple teams for years, nothing new or exotic about it.

They should find a way to incorporate anyone who can rush the passer in their scheme. The defense can certainly use it.

They want a backer who plays the edge of the line, standing up, primarily to rush the passer, but can also drop back in coverage. So basically they want a 3-4 OLB in the Demarcus Ware mold to stick in a 4-3 scheme. Nothing revolutionary here. Someone just slapped a title on 'we want a freakish athlete to play linebacker'

Hardy | Crawford | McClain | Lawrence
Harold | McClain | Lee

This front 7 would work for me all day.

If the OTTO rushes from the Strong side. would that push the SDE inside to DT? I know Hardy has done some of that, but he played most of his time at WDE. The article mentions Watson and Rivers for the OTTO.
