That's a lot of perhaps' and maybe's.

Didn't say we needed them all.

Let's not get carried away here. The 2009 Saints aren't exactly the 1992 Cowboys or 1984 Niners. They're not even the 2007 Pats.

What they are, is a 7 point favorite over the Cowboys this Saturday. That's it. 7 Points. Not 20, not 14, not even 10. 7 point favs lose out right quite often.

I'm no expert but I'd guess the lose outright 35-40% of the time.

I don't usually predict the outcome of a Saint game but I'll take a shot.

Im scared of our injuries in the secondary and the desperation Dallas should play with in this game. I'll base this on the Saints being at home and the mental toughness I've seen from the 2 teams thus far this year.

Saints 38

Dallas 20

When Dallas is desperate the other team is just plane superior and vice versa. The outcome is the same though, don't worry.

Still praying - tired of football being over so damn early.

And I said you were a good guy, even came back afterwards. I was really just surprised to see you here to, and that post was my initial reaction. I couldn't follow from site to site like that, heck I only come here cuz of the rivalry, but like you said, there is good football discussion to be had.

Yup. Saints forums are simply "pat yourself on the back" right now. I already know what I need to know about the Saints. I already know how people feel by talking to them in the street. You can only get a real feel about the other teams by visiting their forums.

Yup. But those bag days were almost 30 years ago, though, and before the Saints finished better than 8-8. Things have been a bit more bearable since then. We did have that four year stretch in the early 90's where we had the best record in the NFL. That may have been the best defense ever, at least as far as the linebacking corps.

Maybe but remember the standard the Cowboy fans place on Dallas is much different than the Saints fans. We went 9-7 last year and the lynch mob went crazy.

We've now got nifty 3d glasses which actually look dumber than your bags, so there's that. I hope visiting Cowboy fans wear them to the super dome, that would be a good photo.

True. From that perspective you are right. But, I can tell you that 7-9 in 2007 and 8-8 in 2008 were very, very frustrating. I wouldn't doubt it if were were last in takeaways both of those years while being first and third in total offense. Gregg Williams coming in along with the defensive additions has been a godsend. We have come to expect turnovers from our opponents and have averaged over three per game with at least one every week. We barely averaged one per week over the 2008-09 stretch.

I didn't know that. What four year stretch you referring to? Could it be 1992-1995? Think the Boys had 49 regular season wins and an 11-1 post-season record over that 4 yr stretch.

I do remember the Saints had trouble getting off the play-off snide. Reminds me of a contemporary team followed closely around here.

LOL! I wasn't going to mention that, but I must admit, I would have needed a bag over my head if I had to wear those things to a football game.

I can't remember the precise stretch, but from 1987-1992 the Saints finished 12-3 (strike interrupted), 10-6, 9-7, 8-8, 11-5, 12-4. The problem was, we were in the same division as the 49er's and some dude named Montana.

Something else for the Cowboy faithful to hang their hat on.

Over Romo's time as a starter, this team has performed better on the road than home when measured against pre game expectations.

Just about everytime this team has exceeded expectations, it's been on the road.

Most of our weaker than expected efforts have come at home.

Some of you guys are throwing the term heartless around a bit too easily. I'd almost pay to see JJT and some of you all tell these players they are heartless to their faces...in a dark ally.
Talk about getting getting a well deserved pummeling.:laugh1:

So far, I do not see a team with no heart. They are playing their tails off but are coming up short due to various reasons (insert your favorite reason but heartless in NOT one of them). It does not look like the crew that threw in the towel in Philly last season.

You don't want to see a team with no heart. Some fans here are blinded by homerism and don't want to face reality. The fact they threw in the towel at Philly last season proves this is a heartless group. Steve Dennis practically called them losers after the giants loss so the players are use to being ripped. Dude this team can't win important games in December. They give up big plays and can't make critical 3rd down stops. They may very well finish the season 0-5. This team has no heart!

Try to Troll a little more stealthy.

The Cowboys did not lack heart or effort in week 17 last year. They got beat by a better, healthier team.

The game snow balled on them. That happens most often in elimination type games. I watched the game and then I actually rewatched it to figure out WTH happened.

The eagles got every break, bounce and call in that game. They were better and the day would have been thiers regardless of their good fortune. It just wouldn't have been by 38 points.

44-6 has nothing to do with what has happen or will happen in 2009. In case you missed it, we went back to the sceen of the crime and beat Philly effectively putting that game to bed.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm going with 38-17 Saints. Outside some players on offense and defense, this team is gutless, and Garrett has been an atrocity at game management.

Some of the biggest whiners from last years group are gone. I do not think this team is heartless at all. This is not the same team, imo. That does not mean they will win this week or next, but I don't see this team throwing in the towel. And using friggin Steve Dennis as a reference in no way helps your argument. Easy to sit in an easychair recalling the peak years of peewee football stardom while calling people that are busting their tails and putting health at risk as "heartless and losers". That's lame...imo.

I said 10-6 and hope I'm right. I don't think this team is quite as talented as some around here....so losing multiple close gaems to possible playoff teams is not the end of the world--though I do think they should have (and could have) won a couple of them. They did lose due to lack of heart.

The longest completion he had was 39 yards and that included some YAC. They got a chincy PI on a flea-flicker. Other than that they didn't complete do-do because Jenkins was outstanding.

They had at least 3 passes over 20 yards. It doesn't matter how it happens, it matters that it happens. Colston is going to kill this poor tackling secondary, as much as I hate to think about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they get a good TD drive early (everybody else has) one long TD pass in the second half, and a TD late in the game when the defense is deflated and has quit.

Prediction:
Saints 27
Cowboys 16

Now that scares me! Could Wade possibly be getting more creative in his game planning?
