No excuses, but I’m sure coaches and players were pumped earlier in the week when Giants said they would play to win the game and not rest starters. Once it was announced 2 days ago that the Giants were not playing their QB or RB or WRs (so thin there) and starting their practice squad QB, I’m sure it let the wind out of everyone’s sails.
Meanwhile, in a meaningless game, we made it clear we were going to play our starters. After crapping the bed last week to miss the playoffs, I’m sure the Commanders were all in all week for their coach who may be fired and to not get embarrassed. You could see our lack of focus from the beginning moments. When is the last time you saw a punter drop the snap right at his chest….then the dropped passes, muffed punt, pick six, missed extra point, dropped coverages, playing DBs that were awful just to get a look. On top of that an OL performance that was close to some of the worst I’ve seen.
It was awful, but that’s not the team that has shown up most weeks this season. That is not who we are, so no need to over react. Next week is another story.
