You never know with these guys. It’s week 2 they may still be trying to see what works. Which makes you wonder why do they just completely disregard preseason…..

They clearly needed some reps in preseason... hopefully we can improve though now that games are being played.

Overshown was a converted safety to LB at Texas. Remeber how that went around here last season? He got bigger but that dosent mean he can shed a tackle or guard blocking him. Even in the Cleveland game, he wasn't great at getting off blocks but he wowed everyone cause he has closing speed.

2nd highest rated LB by PFF in week 1. Watch the all 22. He made multiple plays in the run game. He did it in the preseason as well. He played LB for 3 years at Texas. Enough of this “he’s a safety” nonsense.

I'm just not sure that yesterday Overshown was one of his best players though. One of the best on passing down. One of the highest motor players. He has to get better in the run game though, he just had no chance at getting off a block. If that doesnt change he might be best suited for a hybrid LB/S role.

1) If your argument starts with go watch preseason film its a bad argument, we are playing real football now.
2) Cleveland was forced to throw the football 45 times. I only chart Overshown as having 10 snaps on run plays that game.

I'm not saying that Overshown is a bad player, but he clearly is a liability on the field in the run game, and there is a reason Zim has him limited to mostly nickel package snaps. He clearly doesnt take on blocks very well, and the plays he made against the run in Cleveland he was pretty much not blocked. I simply see zero evidence that he is ready for snaps against 21 personnel. The first play of the game (Q1 12:39) against Cleveland Overshown is in on the tackle but goes unblocked, slightly overruns the play, doesn't fill and gives up a 4 yard gain on a play when he probably should have been able to meet the back at the LOS.

If you have evidence of these great run snaps against Cleveland please feel free to post the time stamps and i'll go back and review them. I've watched both of our games so far multiple times and I'm not seeing a ton of good from Overshown in the pass game, but a lot more bad than good from him in the run game. Clark seems to be the better run defender at this point in time.

Never said he was a safety, I said he's a converted safety in college.

You're not wrong, but thats how bad Overshown was yesterday. He's a plus player at times, pretty consistently so in the pass game, but I think you or I could have blocked him yesterday.

Not sure if made up or confusing 18 & 13. Overshown only played a handful of snaps total on the 6 TD drives.

Don't know but if I was coaching in that game a whole lot of backups would have got snaps. The game was done in the first quarter. Heck it was done before they even hit the field. Lot of players just didn't show up. Give playing time in games like that to guys who might be needed later in the season.

Yeah after you saw your starters getting washed it probably would've been a good idea to tell them fix this now or take a break. There was nothing to lose putting in alternates. Maybe you'd even get more effort.

Everyone is so overly obsessed with the idea of "overshown" and him being the answer at linebacker. He's played two real nfl games and made one flashy tackle on a slow deshaun Watson and now everyone is talking future all pro.....it gets annoying.....kinda reminds me of the Matt Johnson days!

Yes I'm sure l have the right guy, I have multiple posts with time stamps of his plays, including this thread I do believe. Good player but he clearly isnt a 3 down backer at this point in his development as he simply can't take on a block at all. Clark didn't light it up either but its clear why he is in the base package over Overshown so far.
