Dan Gilbert's letter to Cleveland post-Lebron

I'm calling a live press conference to be held on ESPN tonight to announce that I am hiring Dan Gilbert to be my PR rep.

Thanks :laugh2:

I can only see two possible reasons the owner of the team would put that letter out.

1. He really is that mad and really does feel betrayed...maybe he was led to believe that Lebron was staying by lebron and/or his team.

2. He is doing damage control. By that I mean they brought nobody in so far this offseason while the Heat retains Wade, get bosh and Lebron. The knicks get Boozer and other teams resign their guys and other FAs sign with teams. Cleveland...pretty much Nada. So he jumps on the wave of anger by cleveland fans and pulls a Hey I am one of you and just as angry as you are type of move to cover up the lack of them bringing in anybody or seeming to have no plan B.

Who knows...maybe it is a mixture of both.

Whatever the case it does not sound very classy, but maybe it is how he truly feels and sometimes you don't get that much from owners.

Dan Gilbert needs to check himself. That was uncalled for and over the line. There is reacting with class and then there is reacting with a rant like this. All he did was make himself look like a fool.

Same could be said for MeBron too. All this "The Decision" crap and all the bull**** he put these teams and their fans through. Both of them are idiots.

3. He's just polished off a bottle of Old Pulteney 12 Year Old single malt scotch.

Seriously, it sounds like the bitter ramblings of a (very) drunk man.

You ever been in Cleveland? You might find yourself polishing off a bottle too. :laugh1:

I can't believe that's a real letter from an owner of a club.

Extra funny that he posted it in Comic Sans. :laugh2:

What a ***** move.

If you thought he quit in playoff games and is a coward, why were you ready to resign him? You were ready to compromise the best interests of your team to sign a quitter and a loser?

Give me a break.

That's what I'm thinking. The guy must have been drunk, then ordered the PR staff to get it out there despite their objections/concerns.

IT's sad that you wait till now to all of sudden say all of this. When he was playing for you, and when you were hoping he would re-sign, none of this came to light. But because LEbron JAmes choose to go somewhere where the GM would actually build a GOOD team to win a championship and not a team full of cast off's, over the hill players, and wanna-be's who end up dating his own mother, you wanna cry a river. I was feeling sorry for Cleveland, now him and that town and go fall into the river and swim to Chicago, at least they'll have a chance at winning.

What a wacko. Players leave teams all the time. Get over it.

While it wasn't very classy, the letter was to Cleveland, and I'd say 90% of their fans would approve so it doesn't matter what we think about it. And btw the whole having a show to say where u are playing was ridiculous and a slap in the face to his former team

Sounds like a baby ...... you should have tried to help Lebron in those seven years.

I bet he didn't mind LeBron's self promotion when he was shooting commercials and making television appearances in a Cavs jersey.

He doesn't think LeBron should make a spectacle out of this, but he writes a childish statement up on his website for the entire world to see.

He thinks LeBron is obligated to stay in Cleveland because he was born in Ohio, but he himself was born and raised in Michigan and moved to Ohio to make his money.

He thinks LeBron should be bound by loyalty, but he didn't really believe much in loyalty when he was firing Danny Ferry or trying to entice Izzo to leave Michigan State.

He makes fun of LeBron's "King" nickname, but I bet he had no problems selling t-shirts and merchandise with the nickname when he was a Cav.

I would understand maybe if he "discovered" LeBron and gave him a shot when no one else would, but the truth of the matter is he got LeBron (and consequently made millions upon millions off of him) because he won a ping pong ball game of chance. He comes across as just a spoiled rich guy who's accustomed to getting everything he wants.
