Dan Gilbert's letter to Cleveland post-Lebron

Thats great, wish more owners were that passionated.
Princess James played with fire... and now he is getting burned.

All sorts of stuff is about to leak....

Like how Cleveland had parking spaces next to their stadium for the players and another spot for the spouses....

But LeBron needed his LeBrentourage to park there, so he demanded that the team revoke the spaces for the player's families and give the space to his buddies.

Of course, the team is at fault for allowing it too.

People can say whatever they want about Gilbert's letter...

Yes, its pretty classeless.

But if I was a Cleveland fan, having watched my home-grown star leave in the manner he did (ie; on national television after a full-set facade of a recruiting trip that was purely ego driven), I'd be more than a little pissed.... and would be happy my owner took some parting shots on behalf of the city/state/organization.

Lebron's roof
Lebron's roof
Lebron's roof is on fire!

We don't need no water
Let the ************ burn!
Burn ************!
Burn!

No, he isn't getting burned. He is putting himself in a great position in Miami. Maybe he won't win it all with the heat, but he will have a better chance than had he stayed in Cleveland.

And where was this passion when LeBron was still in Cleveland? The owner is not coming across as passionate at all. He comes across as a baby. There is a difference.

I agree 100%!! it's not that he left but in the manner that he did it. And again if I was a cavs fan I'd feel very appreciative that my owner spoke out and made the feelings of the whole city known

Or he could have just said who he was going to play for and write a check to charity.

It was all self-serving and unnecessary.

But that's not as good as generating even more money that can be given to charity.

I bet he didn't mind LeBron's self promotion when he was shooting commercials and making television appearances in a Cavs jersey.

He doesn't think LeBron should make a spectacle out of this, but he writes a childish statement up on his website for the entire world to see.

He thinks LeBron is obligated to stay in Cleveland because he was born in Ohio, but he himself was born and raised in Michigan and moved to Ohio to make his money.

He thinks LeBron should be bound by loyalty, but he didn't really believe much in loyalty when he was firing Danny Ferry or trying to entice Izzo to leave Michigan State.

He makes fun of LeBron's "King" nickname, but I bet he had no problems selling t-shirts and merchandise with the nickname when he was a Cav.

I would understand maybe if he "discovered" LeBron and gave him a shot when no one else would, but the truth of the matter is he got LeBron (and consequently made millions upon millions off of him) because he won a ping pong ball game of chance. He comes across as just a spoiled rich guy who's accustomed to getting everything he wants.

Great post.

As Val Kilmer said in Tombstone as Doc Holliday, "Apparently, my hypocrisy knows no bounds."

I and my wife were talking about this this morning, and we both agreed that Gilbert is mad because he's watching his gravy train leave, and he'll once again be counting empty seats.

We both said if he wanted LeBron to stay so badly, then he should have offered him a deal as minority owner contingent upon him staying with the team.

But I'm sure he's not willing to give up even an ounce of his power to a guy who basically put that team on the NBA map again.

Pulease. Cry me the Ohio river.

Gilbert's product plummeted in value last night. Man, that team without LeBron James is pitiful.

NBA rules forbid this. Jordan has to divest his ownership of the Wizards before he came out of retirement to play for them.

It can be written so that he comes owner after his retirement.

Pretty sad.

You guys locked up the east. And this is coming from a skeptic of this superteam. But not, now. Not w/ Mike Miller and/or Haslem.

Pathetic.

With the Cavs S&T, the Cavs got back 2 1sts and 2 2nds plus a $15M trade exception.

With the Toronto S&T, the Raptors got back 2 1st round picks in 2011 and a trade exception.

They are getting this "help" because if you were the owner of a team, wouldn't you want something in return rather than just let the guy go?
