With the Cavs S&T, the Cavs got back 2 1sts and 2 2nds plus a $15M trade exception.

With the Toronto S&T, the Raptors got back 2 1st round picks in 2011 and a trade exception.

They are getting this "help" because if you were the owner of a team, wouldn't you want something in return rather than just let the guy go?

No. Force them to sign outright and let the other owner worry about the implications of hamstringing his franchise for the future.

But, it's not much help. If Toronto got 2 1sts and the Raptors got back 2 1sts, that basically means that for at least the next 4 years Miami will not have a first round pick.

The wheels will come off this thing in about 3 seasons, and Pat Riley won't be able to trade those contracts.

Not if I just went on a ridiculous rant about the guy being a Benedict Arnold and a coward.

Why help that coward make his team even scarier?

You cant trade 1sts in consecutive years.

The Cavs 1sts may be 2013 and 2015. Just in time to draft Lebron James' 1st son

Read it again. Two 1sts each from two teams. 2011 (Heat), 2012 (Cavs), 2013 (Heat), 2014 (Cavs).

The first-rounders likely will be in 2013 and 2015, with second-round picks in 2011 and 2012. The Cavs, it is believed, also will have the right to swap first-round picks with the Heat in 2012. In a separate sign-and-trade Friday, the Heat sent two first-round picks to the Toronto Raptors for Chris Bosh.

The Cavs and Raptors have the tools now to remain competitive. We'll see if Dan Gilbert can deliver on his promises or if he ends up being an albatross.

Thus why you aren't a GM for a bball team. :laugh2:
You might be pissed but you still do what's right for your basketball team. In this case, something is better than nothing.
The Heat would've gotten the 3 deals done no matter what.

It wouldn't hurt Toronto to let him sign outright so much as it would Cleveland, since the Cavaliers need draft picks like a dope fiend needs coke. They had no picks this year, and this draft was pretty good, especially for their potential needs.

But hey, at least they've got Delonte West and Anderson Varejao for the next year. :lmao:

All this tough talk and now hes helping Lebron and the Heat out tremendoulsy by doing a S&T

What a *****.

All hes getting back is late picks. The kind he can just buy.

He's actually hurting the Heat.

Miami is going to have no cap space for the future. They will have the MLE, LLE, veteran minimum, and draft picks to round out their roster.

Toronto and Cleveland are now taking away their draft picks.

They'll be left with the MLE, LLE, and vet min to build a bench.

And then there's the cap room. After accounting for Chalmers, Anthony, the contract guarantee on released guard James Jones and various cap holds (the second-round picks don't count on their cap until they are signed), the Heat amassed a staggering $49.85 million in spending money.

Had James, Wade and Bosh received their full maximum salary (about $16.57 million each), only about $1.56 million would have remained. But true to their word that it was about wins and not about money, each took less so that the Heat could pursue quality players. Sources told ESPN.com that James and Bosh signed for $14.5 million and Wade $14 million, leaving the Heat with nearly $8.3 million to spend.

One persistent rumor has the Heat using some of their leftover cap room to add sharpshooting Mike Miller to the lineup, and Miller is reportedly close to agreeing with the team on a deal totaling $25 million over five years -- which would start at around $4.3 million. While he is a natural small forward (the same position James plays), Miller's skill set would complement those of LeBron, Bosh and Wade, and there would be several ways of slotting him into the lineup. In addition to using Miller as James' backup for the 8-12 minutes James is off the floor, coach Erik Spoelstra could play either Wade or James at point guard and put Miller at the vacated position.
