  • It's a Nickel defense with 3 Safeties.
  • Bell is good but undersized and not built for a running onslaught.
  • Micah is just not good in run defense.
  • Hankins was out, LVE was out.
  • The Bills had our # from the get go. They saw what Arizona did to us.
That’s a bit of an overstatement.

There’s a fundamental difference between playing the run as a LB that’s somewhat protected vs. playing it as an undersized DE in the trenches.

Micah’s been asked to do the latter.

There is also somewhat of an art to playing the run. Despite his size, Micah is strong enough to hold an edge 1v1. The issue is he voluntarily cuts inside the tackle at times and loses containment. I saw that several times yesterday.

This is one of the first teams to say we are gonna stick to the run and they jammed it down our throats. This guy needs to stop with all these safeties playing out of position. Having 5 safetys and one LBer in at all times is not a way to win in the running game. They constantly got easy push and ran away up the middle, outside, left, right, up, down. It looked like they had a cheat code and thats on Quinn.
In his defense, he has no middle linebackers.

LVE and Overshown went down, and Parsons isn't good in that position.

Mazi is killing us more than anything. That was a bad pick. Secondly our GM is killing us by not adding FAs to shore up the run defense. Thirdly DQ’s hybrid guys and scheme killed us tonight.

The way we approach FA, or rather don’t approach FA, and the drafting of Mazi the bust will do us in the season.

This, you will get some saying you can’t spend alot on FA, agree but you need to shore up some spots because you aren’t going to hit on all of your draft picks either.

Who is there to play LB for this team? They have Clark, Evans and Parsons on the roster. They let Cox go. They lost Devin Harper when they waived him and he was claimed. Parsons plays pass rushers much of the time and honestly, he is not great against the run either. Honestly, I am starting to think Parsons has not developed as an off ball LB because they use his as an Edge Rusher so much. But he needs to play the run better when he is in there. LVE and Overshown got hurt. They are playing Safeties at LB because they have no one else.

But is was not just the LBs last night. The DEs are not getting it done either. The Cowboys moved Lawrence to the right side of the defense to stop the runs over there and the Bills ran it to the right side.

Let's see how they do next week in Miami. If they had a lot of guys sick maybe they just ran out of gas.

Kearse was pulling a bunch of Byron Jones last night and running away purposely taking bad angles on run plays to avoid contact. Can’t stop the run with players like that. Don’t know what happened to Kearse but his physical play is gone this season.

Not really. The offense's inability to score and bad penalties (and bad calls) lead to that second half.

The problem is that the safeties are bad, not that they're playing out of position or something.

Its Hankins.

When there is a 1T that does his job, the small fast LB's are free to flow to the ball or the hole. Their size isn't an issue because they aren't dodging offensive linemen. When the guy in the middle gets pushed back by one OL, the linebackers now have to dodge that pair and other OL coming at them. We saw it last year where LVE looked terrible early on and then was a "new man" and "critical" to the defense later in the season . . . after they got Hankins.

This is why they drafted Mazi. Mazi's poor play at 1T is why he was playing almost exclusively at 3T next to Hankins before he got hurt.

Everyone who thought the run defense was fine last year just got an eyeful of why it was fine.
Even when hankins is playing,we barely stopped the run..we need lbs and Clark is barely average at best.

LMAO all three starting linebackers were injured and our best interior defensive lineman was injured. Of course we sucked against the run.

I think Micah needs to go back to LB. I really do. The middle of this defense has no chance to stop a downhill running game on 2nd/3rd & 3 or less.

Yes sir, agreed.
Maybe we will draft some lbs?
Maybe sign some free agents lbs?

Been saying this for a while. You're begging a team to just ground and pound you. Light boxes get us killed.

Their game plan was to run the hell out of the ball until we stop it. Allen only attempted 2 passes on the first drive ( 15 for the game ). In other words, they had zero respect for our ability to stop their running game. This reminded me of the Rams playoff game a few years ago.

BTW......remember a couple of years ago when Wilson and Kearse played like All-Pros?
Yup, was thinking same thing. They used to come downhill and lay the wood....big dropoff

  1. Most important DL against run hurt. Only has two young guys who have struggled to get playing time behind him.
  2. Most important LB against run career over. Only has a young so/so 2nd year player behind him who ALSO got hurt. After that we're playing 200 LBs.
  3. Safeties, our next line of defense. Donovan Wilson got hurt. Hooker out. Kearse been hurt all year.
Get lead against that and take away our biggest strength - the pass rush - and it's game over.

Big Hank is the anchor that holds the run defense together, without Hank, DQ may need to change up some things to compensate for the loss. Add Evans at LB and stack the box.

This is going to struggle against the run until we get big humans on the DL. It's that simple. Teams will continue to run at Micah and take advantage of us at will until we get that fixed.

The Bills out schemed us. The Bills usually play hero ball with Allen. Give them credit.

We have NO linebackers. What do expect? Lol Add on the loss of Hankins.
seriously. the pantry is bare, and we’re still 10-4. buffalo was only able to do that because they’re typically reliant on josh. given our injuries, and their tendencies, we drew up a game plan to contain him, they drew up a game plan to counter it by flipping their entire script. we gambled wrong, and the game flow supported their decision perfectly
