Dan Quinn and the 5 safety no LBer concept is killing us

This guy blew a 28-3 lead in the SB because basic football escapes him far too often. When you go into the 3Q leading by that much you RUN the ball, run the play-clock/game-clock down and punt when needed.

This is one of the first teams to say we are gonna stick to the run and they jammed it down our throats. This guy needs to stop with all these safeties playing out of position. Having 5 safetys and one LBer in at all times is not a way to win in the running game. They constantly got easy push and ran away up the middle, outside, left, right, up, down. It looked like they had a cheat code and thats on Quinn.
Quinn is a big part of the problem

C'mon, nobody's saying that, however, the whole of the coaching team seems unable to adapt (9ers Press/Man, Bills run).
I still think teams with good all-round offenses can play around Micah as they gamble on him heading for the QB on pretty much every down.
I still remember Hurts RPOing Micah to death last year. I don't know if it's anything to do with Micah wanting to pass rush (for stat /contract purposes), but we need to utilize ALL of his qualities for the betterment of the team.

Been saying it on this forum for 2 years now. To get the best out of Micah he needs to be OLB in a 3-4 scheme.

Folks often just assign blame to the most convenient thing. In this case, Hankins being out.

Hankins was not going change yesterday’s outcome.

We were getting gashed on outside runs and poor tackling. The OP is right that our defense basically deploys just two LBs. One of which (Bell) is a smaller hybrid guy.

We don’t have guys filling the lanes. Everytime I see a RB hit the lane between the tackles I’m waiting for one of our guys to meet them in the hole. Never happens though.

Whatever happened to the Sean Lee type of MLBer? In other words, go get a smart traditional MLBer

The offense is used to getting lots of opportunities. The Bills started the game with a long TD drive. They put together 3 long TD drives in the first half and Dak couldn’t get the offense into any kind of rhythm with the limited possessions. Losing Martin early was crushing as well since Tyler Bass would be a mediocre player on most college level teams. So, between lack of possession and lack of protection, the offense had no chance. Personally , I think this team got down 21-3, the weather was bad, and they just mailed the rest of it in. They came out in the second half and went 3 and out. They just had nothing yesterday.
lol dak sucked enough said. No rhythm, bills were down starting de, starting safety and dak needs five minutes to take sac. Defense is a problem bc Quinn’s defense only work when playing spread offense that’s trying to throw, relying on extra guy on the line to be accounted for and getting to the qb. No one gets to QB the secondary’s and one lb can be exposed. It’s a hybrid model that sucks. Guarantee that Clark isn’t as bad as people think and he’ll smoke us on another team when used properly.

Man, you guys just dont want to face facts

Quinn defense has been bad against the run for years. Thats how SF has beaten us for 3 years. He plays garbage at DT, 3-4 safeties, plays Micah at DE to make him happy, players not staying in gaps or keeping contain, poor tackling

This is on Mccarthy and Quinn

It was obvious to me the Bills were just going to run the ball most downs.
Micah should of been moved to offball LB for most of the game. Evans(honestly I don't remember) should of been the other LB-unless he's completely toast as a run stopper.

They better figure it out because Miami is a good running and play action team.

  • It's a Nickel defense with 3 Safeties.
  • Bell is good but undersized and not built for a running onslaught.
  • Micah is just not good in run defense.
  • Hankins was out, LVE was out.
  • The Bills had our # from the get go. They saw what Arizona did to us.

If Hill is back and "healthy enough" then they'll have to decide to either have the safeties cheat up or have them stay back to account for Waddle and Hill's speed. Miami offensive line is beyond banged up, but were still able to run on the Jets

we are a small team. become smaller that way. and when you go small like that, you add speed, but the playes need to carry their assignment and secondly tackle in open field or against the RB. offenses can also scheme to get their guards to the second level and block the safties.

we are just not a good run defense team and this has nothing to do with Hankins. one average player doesn't make the difference between 100 yards and 266

Yep, it's as if we don't want to do the boring (but necessary) hard work of earning the right to pass-rush.
Teams watching yesterday, especially thoughs with a mobile QB, are going to continue to run against us (if they can get a lead).

True but Tua is not very accurate. Play zone and force him to throw in tight windows........
