Reeves should stay retired, but he doesnt get enough credit for the great coaching jobs he did...he didnt win it all, but the teams he took to the Super Bowls were clearly inferior to everyone of the teams they played, save maybe the strike yr in 87 when they got hammered by Washington

but what if that record was his best in 4 years?

you tend to leave out little details that seem to deflate the point of cheesy sarcasm.

Didn't Parcells go 10-6 in his first year?

While I respect Dan Reeves the man, and the player; he was the coach who had John Elway, and couldn't figure a way to play to his strengths. If anything, he was more hidebound than Parcells.

many years ago i hoped reeves would be the Cowboys head coach..loved him
as a player and asssistant coach under Landry.
key words being......many years ago.
not sure now after seeing how tired and disinterested ol Bill looked
during most of our games. maybe it is time for a younger guy.
i wouldnt jump off a bridge if it was Reeves.

I'd take a long hard look at Reeves. (not saying I would want him. I would hear him out though to see if the fire is there.) Yikes. I'm agreeing with iceberg. The Red Sea has officially parted.

What do you mean? Shanahan didn't do anything much different for Elway. The difference was that Denver got a good running back and good o-line. Reeves got a lot out of Elway. Elway was considered a top qb and Hall of Famer before Shanahan ever became head coach of the Broncos.

Reeves could not get over the hump and win the Superbowl, but Denver was not better than San Fran, NYG or Washington when they went to the Superbowl and Atlanta was not better than Denver. Reeves showed he could get to the Superbowl without Elway and that is something Shanahan hasn't done. Chris Chandler. I still can't believe that Reeves got that QB to the big game.

I liked Reeves and think he is deserving of the Hall of Fame. His all time contributions to the NFL merit his induction. He has appeared in more Superbowl games than any other person in the NFL. I would not like him as a head coach at this time. I did want him back in 1998 when Dallas signed Chan Gailey, but that was a long 9 years ago. He would be a good consultant for a real franchise. He was a consultant for Houstong this year, but that was right after the draft proving that the Texans are not a real franchise.

Dan always provides a short lived surge that goes the way of his defected heart.

The previously 5-11 NY Giants went 11-5 in 1993 and an OT away from taking the division from the eventual Team of the 90s. Then he took the 1998 Falcons who were 7-9 the year before to a 14-2 record they had no business having and defeated the best team in the league in Minnesota before succumbing to his former quarterback in the Super Bowl. (long sentence)

He has these bursts of greatness but it will be surrounded by years of crap, are you prepared to take that?

Hmmm, lemme think about that one? Short burst of greatness and years of crap, vs 11 years without a playoff win. Hmmm, I think I'll take door #1.

He's mentioned that he'd like to coach again. Thoughts?

I love Dan, but having been in Atlanta during his Falcons years, I can say that quadruple bypass changed him markedly. He was an in-your-face coach before the surgery, a lot mellower after.

I think the younger healthier Dan was a better motivator than he is now. I also wonder about his health and what that might have done to the decision to fire him in Atlanta, denials or no.

I always felt that Dan Reeves would be the Cowboy's coach at some time in his career. He had a great offensive mind and for those of you who don't remember he was our "MBIII" during his stay as a Cowboy. Boy, did he have a nose for the goal line!

Having said that however I don't think he would be my choice as the next Cowboy coach primarily because I think like Parcells, his best days are past! If he was 20 years younger I would say "YES" in a heartbeat! Let's face it......the Cowboy's first two HC's spoiled us and we may never get another one to spoil us again!:(
