Dan Skipper isn't bad

32 teams and 7 rounds had a chance to draft him and passed on him and I don't see a team signing a guy to their 53 man roster just on his upside, he's still very raw, that's the definition of a practice squad player..

It is, but I definitely think that teams across the league take an extra look at the Cowboys offensive line. Their reputation precedes them, and just being a part of it elevates a player's profile and stock. I think that's why Jonathan Cooper is here.

Now he obviously has to show something in training camp and preseason, but I think that if he does, he could get scooped up. There are 32 teams, but only one with the overall talent and pedigree that the Cowboys currently enjoy. The rest of the league is trying to catch up.

Wish we could get that kind of quality on Defensive line where we are having multiple pro bowlers on D line and might have to let an good up and coming guy go due to the riches of the position.
Maybe that day will come in a year or two.

Will McClay is working on it.

That's why Cole Beasley went to the PS right?

Day 3 is just about a crap shoot, especially in the 6th and 7th round. As we have seen in the past, just because a player went undrafted doesn't mean he is an unworthy player. Day 3 of the draft is about either players with lower ceilings, injured but potential or raw but have potential.
Skipper will need to obviously play well in preseason. However, if he does, I doubt teams will still have the mindset of "well, we passed on him in April, so yea we won't put a claim on him".

The guy hasn't even played a down in o3re season yet and some are convinced he will get picked up by other teams? Let's get a real look at him before we say he's worthy of a roster spot. I hope he is worthy. I hope he makes Jerry make some very difficult decisions.

It's nice to finally have some decent overall depth on online to the point that we are now worried about losing a guy due to numbers.

At one time we had a bunch of guys who were past their prime but getting paid like they were in their primes on oline.

Wish we could get that kind of quality on Defensive line where we are having multiple pro bowlers on D line and might have to let an good up and coming guy go due to the riches of the position.

we went from over paid and over the hill to those like Costa who while called a jag was an insult to jags in general. Remember when certain front office types and coaching types tried to claim Costa was going to be a quality NFL center? Then we went to the other extreme and started using first rd picks; and walla! suddenly we had quality. Remember all the years Jerry refused to use a first rd on the O line since the 1990's line did not have any? Anyone watching the boys 2009 to 2012 would have gotten whiplash at how the philosophy changed. I just hope we stick with the current one.

I don't see us reversing course. Games are won in the trenches and Jerry is already reaping some of the rewards.

That's about as wrong as you can get. We jettisoned old, expensive OL contracts as soon as JG took over, backfilled with value FA and lower round picks, brought in a new coach and a new blocking scheme, and systematically added the pieces to support it. While fans were complaining about the "process" the entire time.

It's the same thing we've done with the other position groups on the roster if you've been paying attention.

Skipper's got an outside shot. Who knows if he'd make the PS if cut. A PS somewhere would be an accomplishment for him right now. But the team and the other OLs seem to like him.

I think Skipper will get snagged trying to get him to the PS. I made a thread on him a couple months back, he certainly has some NFL upside.

I think he is a safe bet for the PS. His potential is intriguing but there is a reason he did not get drafted: he is too tall.

What I heard while I was at the Star (doing some consulting on a hotel project) is that the coaches love his fight but he has poor technique and very little athleticism. His toughness can get him a spot on the roster eventually but he will never be a quality starter. Just sharing what I heard.

Be prepared for revisionist history!
