Dan Skipper isn't bad

Watched him in college. He can play in this league. Will take a little patience. Needs more polish. Not sure he make the 53 but definately the PS. Just hope no team steals him.
Reminds me of Ronald Leary. A guy, a bit raw, but seems to have the "it" it takes to make it in the league.

Starts as a good backup, develops, and could end up a reliable starter (maybe not a super star but reliable)

Skipper has that mean streak Leary has. If he shows up in the preseason games he could definitely make the team

There are a lot of guys out there that will tell you that Skipper is the dirtiest player they every played against. I live in Arkansas and it pretty well known around here. If you go back and watch his game against Myles Garrett and he must have had a single game record for cut blocks.

that is not good. what goes around comes back around...

He and Leary are nothing alike. Skipper is TEETERING on the edge of even being heavy enough to be an OL, but can make it because he is so tall and has long arms. The only reason he would be worth keeping around is to block FG. And this is coming from an Ark fan.

Yeah so for those calling Taco a punk don't be so quick to think you know what was happening there.

i would not bother to evaluate taco for a least another week or 2.

in terms of a dirty player, it is bad to have one because he could cause our own players to get cheap shots. however, it is good to have one as a deterrent and to dish out revenge.

He'll never make the PS, he has good upside and teams know Dallas is deep.

Unfortunately the roster is limited, and we have other players in the same situation. Which is a good problem to have.
What players(s) do you keep even if inactive each week, based on potential.
There is only 1 to 3 spots to do this, depending on a numbers game at certain positions.

Which players are more likely they keep. Shill positions over an OL I believe.

Noah Brown, Rico Gathers are high on the list over an OL. One of the young DB's, White, Woods, though I believe woods make it. Ivie makes it over Skipper.
If they keep 9 OL, then Skipper needs to beat out Bell, but they may need a T over a G. So that will be tough.

So I hope Skipper can make it to the PS. He could be one of these players we put more of a higher value as fans over other teams. Because we as fans are biased to potential of almost all 90 players in TC.

Day 3 is just about a crap shoot, especially in the 6th and 7th round. As we have seen in the past, just because a player went undrafted doesn't mean he is an unworthy player. Day 3 of the draft is about either players with lower ceilings, injured but potential or raw but have potential.
Skipper will need to obviously play well in preseason. However, if he does, I doubt teams will still have the mindset of "well, we passed on him in April, so yea we won't put a claim on him".

Yes.
When the draft was 12 rounds, any player selected in round 8 to 12 was considered a long shot. Tell that to Larry Brown...LOL...
But the 6th and 7th round picks actually were considered to have a decent chance to make the team.

Now with 7 rounds, people expect them to be a long shot for whatever reason. Just because it is the last 2 rounds, I guess people feel they have to be junk to have lasted that long.

It is a matter of perspective. Just because you have to pick one of the last few cars in the parking lot, does not mean it won't run well. LOL. You can get a bargain. we did on a few players recently.

That's the truth. For every one of these guys that we claim will "never make it through waivers" twenty of them do. But then that one turns out to be Darius Jackson and we never let I think go!

32 teams and 7 rounds had a chance to draft him and passed on him and I don't see a team signing a guy to their 53 man roster just on his upside, he's still very raw, that's the definition of a practice squad player..
Yes, UDFAs are much more likely to make it to the PS than late round picks. If teams really wanted a UDFA they likely would have signed them initially.

That's about as wrong as you can get. We jettisoned old, expensive OL contracts as soon as JG took over, backfilled with value FA and lower round picks, brought in a new coach and a new blocking scheme, and systematically added the pieces to support it. While fans were complaining about the "process" the entire time.

It's the same thing we've done with the other position groups on the roster if you've been paying attention.

Skipper's got an outside shot. Who knows if he'd make the PS if cut. A PS somewhere would be an accomplishment for him right now. But the team and the other OLs seem to like him.

I don't think you'll ever get people to get it bro.

Lol. I'm sure I won't. But it drives me *nuts.* To say it until you're blue in the face while it's happening and get nothing but complaints about the plan, then have the plan work out, and have them forget it ever happened like that in the first place. Gah!

Whiplash from the policy changing? Right. Yeah, let's hope we stick with the "new policy." Do you think there's a chance? Personally, I think maybe we will.

Value FA. Yeah sure. Show me that FA that actually had QUALITY. Or UDFA for that matter. Where are they now? I guess as usual you did not pay attention to the beating Romo got from having those gomers you love so much starting. I believe I remember you were one of those that thought COSTA was quality. So your judgement at the least is questionable.

I thought you were the guy that admitted to being an Aggie's fan in the past...

You can stop with the melodramatic overreaching. It wasn't about "QUALITY." It was about jettisoning bloated contracts and maintaining an acceptable level of play.

Players like Jerry Parnell and Montrae Holland and Pat McQuistan and Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau were *exactly* what I said they were at the time. They were placeholder guys we brought in to take some starts while guys like Arkin and Tyron and Frederick and Martin and Chaz Green and Laurence Gibson were added via the draft. You call them 'gomers I loved so much' now, but they served exactly the purpose I said they would when they were brought in while you were running around with your hair on fire screaming that the team didn't value the OL while we not-so-subtly went about building the best OL in football spending first round pick after first round pick on the position group.

And I'm not sure what handle you posted under back when Phil Costa was here, but whichever it was, that was one of the stupidest debates we've had on CZ in years. Anybody who doesn't understand that he represented good value for a CFA signing at a time when we were shedding those big OL contracts doesn't know how to evaluate undrafted free agent acquisitions. Costa was a solid addition to the 53 by any reasonable measure. That was validated by the Colts after we drafted Frederick and waived him and they brought him in to compete for their starting job, as well.

Brian Waters, Bernadeau, Livings all had some decent games while the Cowboys transitioned to the new OL scheme and added better players.

Costa as a UDFA was before Callahan came here. Same for the attempt to make Alex Barron a starter at RT.

Parnell was originally free agent and he helped get them to the playoffs with superb play in 2014.
