ESPN suspends anchor over her 'inappropriate' comments at roast
ESPN has suspended an anchor who made inappropriate comments, including vulgar references about Notre Dame, during a roast earlier this month in Atlantic City, N.J., the Chicago Tribune reports.
First Take co-host Dana Jacobson is off the air for a week because of the "rambling speech" she made during an event honoring two ESPN Radio personalities, the paper says.
At the time, a Press of Atlantic City story said "ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson made an absolute fool of herself, swilling vodka from a Belvedere bottle, mumbling along and cursing like a sailor as Mike & Mike rested their heads in their hands in embarrassment."
She later apologized for the appearance. "I am sorry. My remarks about Notre Dame were foolish and insensitive. I respect all religions and did not mean anything derogatory by my poorly chosen words. I also deeply regret the embarrassment I've caused ESPN and Mike and Mike," Jacobson says in a statement. "My actions at the roast were inappropriate and in no way represent who I am. I won't make excuses for my behavior, but I do hope I can be forgiven for such a poor lack of judgment."
What did she say? ESPN's not saying. But the bloggers at ******** claim to have some of the most offensive quotes from her speech. The Catholic League isn't happy about those comments, or the network's reaction to them.
Ironically, the Orlando Sentinel says Jacobson was one of those who defended Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman when she was being criticized for using the word "lynch" in reference to Tiger Woods.
"Some people believed there was no intentional harm. When the subject came up on ESPN's First Take, host Dana Jacobson excused the misstep by saying, 'Sometimes people who are colorblind don't think about the choice of words they're using,'" columnist Shannon J. Owens wrote.
