Welker was a threat to take it to the house everytime he had the ball in his hands at Tech. Everytime he had his hands on the ball you just held your breath, because you knew he could do something electric.

Amandola was never really that way. The thing about Amandola is he's just so tough. I can't tell you how many times he ran a short slant and just got absolutely creamed by a linebacker and held onto the ball for a 3rd down conversion. And the guy never fair catches a punt, even if he knows he's going to get obliterated.

Sounds like the anti-Patrick Crayton.

Also, we may not need a home run guy at that spot. A go-to slot, possession guy adept at moving the chains, going across the middle, reliable hands. He can do that as well as anyone we have now, including Crayton.

After many NFL scouts attended Pro Day at Tech last year, only a scout from the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys each made their way to Lubbock this year.

With Amendola being the only Red Raider invited to this year's NFL Combine, other former players were excited about the chance to perform in front of scouts, as they had been training since the season ended.
Previously at the Combine, Amendola benched press 225 pounds 13 times

With a goal of trying to improve a time of 4.65 seconds at the Combine, Amendola ran an unofficial time of 4.57 on his first try.
"I felt like I needed to run the 40 again," Amendola said. "Try to drop my time down a little bit. I did, and it feels good."

This looks like a real good pickup for us.
He would be a perfect slot receiver. If he can make the transition to the pros, then our offense will be very tough to defend.
After what Welker did for the Pats, everyone is going to be looking for the their own verison.

Could a Mod please add the "n" that I forgot in Danny's last name? It's bothering me.

Thanks.

Yeah. I'm pretty stoked on this guy. I really like the way NE uses the slot guy. It's a "copy cat" league...so lets copy those cats.

I just watched the video again... great video.

That first highlight where he peeled back and obliterated that guy on the sideline. Love that tenacity. I like the quote too at the beginning of the video. Something along the lines of "if you were in a paper bag with this guy and it was shaken up you would not want to hang around"..I'm butchering it but it was something like that.

I think he said that you wouldn't want to be in the same paper bag w/ him if you had to fight it out to be the one to get out

ever see one of the Missing in Action movies? :)

Granted, its just a highlight reel...

But seriously, anyone else think he can unseat Austin or Hurd?

Owens, Crayton, Stanback are locks. Glenn too, if he comes back.

What we lack (unless Glenn is back), is the quick, slot type WR. If this guy can be that, why not give him the roster spot? Is Hurd really going to be anything more than he is? I kind of want to keep Austin bec. of his physical talents (if he ever puts it together, we might get a solid WR out of him).

But is he really going to struggle to beat Hurd or Austin out?

I think that is the key. I don't think he'd have a shot in hell at beating out Austin or Hurd for a traditional WR role, but if the coaches can figure out how to use him the way NE uses Welker, than I think he's got a real shot at sticking around...and maybe producing. The guy doesn't pretend to be something he's not, he knows he's going to be nothing more than a slot receiver, so he's dedicated his studies to becoming just that...using what Welker has accomplished along the way.

I think Hurd.

I'm thinking Austin doesn't feel so well after today.

My guess is that Redball's input will carry a lot of weight in this department.
