Danny Amendola... did we just get a Welker? You decide...

Every year, a few guys who don't have great measureables slip through the cracks and end up making an NFL team.

I think Danny has a chance.

I follow Tech closely and Danny has been a consistent performer since he arrived there. They had other receivers who were bigger and probably had more ability over the past four years, but Danny was more reliable.

Welker was quicker and more dangerous, but Danny compares with Wes in straight line speed at least and in toughness.

He might be able to find a spot as a special teams guy and occasional slot receiver. I hope he makes it.

I've been at TTU for the duration of Welker and Amendola's careers and I can say that they are definitely not in the same league. When Amendola got here the comparisons to Welker started right away. In his first year playing he had a fabulous returned punt for a touchdown which only increased the comparisons.

Since then he has never returned a punt for a score. He doesn't have the same kind of lateral quickness and vision that made Wes such an amazing threat. Every time Wes had the ball it was a given that he would make a few people miss him and might even take it to the house. Amendola had that trait to a lesser extent but rarely finished the play. That said he made a lot of clutch first down catches and doesn't drop passes. He also has a knack for finding open spots on the field.

I doubt he will make it on the final roster, but I certainly hope he can find a way to make it that far. Perhaps he can make an impact in the pre-season and prove his doubters wrong.

Yeah I was gonna ask that... in the video he doesnt look like he has "Welker" quickness or speed.

danny is one bad ace receiver.

i just saw this thread. trust me on this....amendola will be a great addition to this football team.

i'm so happy i could drink a few more beers. i've watched him since he played for the woodlands highlanders in houston.

he's like a cross between mike renfro and wes welker.

gritty, tough, humble, deceptive speed and the heart to go out and make plays.

With that "inside scoop" I may just chug one down too... wait... ok, cool... its not morning anymore... its safe LOL

I certainly don't want to make too much of this guy, but he times a 4.63 forty while welker was a 4.67, so it seems they are comparable over a distance. The real question is whether or not he has Welker's quickness...which I don't see in those highlights.

If you compare his video to Welker's college videos, they look much more similar.

Welker has better moves, especially that quick pivot after the catch which he still uses in the NFL.

I won't pretend I watched Welker in college, or have seen anything of Amendola other than youtube and scout videos, but it also seems to me that at least coming out of college, Amendola is better making the catch in traffic.

I don't know anything about the guy, I watched the high light video and liked it, just as I like all highlight videos.

If he can bring to the pros what I saw on the video, then we may be on to something. I'm also with the guy who'd rather keep Austin over Hurd. I think they are virtually the same player, and if i'm forced to choose, i'll take size and talent, and pray he learns to catch the ball.

Now if we were comparing 1st string WRs, I'd go with Hurd.

I'm pretty sure at WR, being able to catch is part of the whole "talent" thing. If you can't catch at WR, you have no talent, you're just an athlete.

There are plenty of of basketball players that can run fast, but if they can't do it while dribbling a ball, they shouldn't be in the NBA.

Stop talking about my Grizzlies

love his passion for the game, has good vision and instincs. If anything he could be a nice special teams player.

He's not Wes Welker, but I already like him more than I ever liked SKYLER GREEN , and this guy didn't cost us a 4th round pick.......... All this guy does for us, is add to the number of expendable WR's on this team..... However, I do like him, and he's a great UDFA signing..........

I think the kid makes the team at the expense of Austin.

:crossed:  :crossed:

I have been thinking about this guy since I watch that video last night. I think there's a little man love creeping in.

How do they compare? They are pretty much the same WR.

See what I mean?

amazing resemblence. creepy. he has a chance. he gets good separation at the college level. let's see if it translates to the NFL. He doesn't look that fast but he has crisp cuts and doesn't miss a beat which is a lot harder to do than he's making it look.

Amen Dola! Great vid. I hope he can bring it to the next level, exciting
guy to watch.Just the way he cuts on those returns, good luck kid.

Hard to believe he didn't at least get drafted in the 7th.

Great pickup, regardless.
