Cowboys practice squad receiver Danny Amendola plans to sign an offseason contract with the Eagles.

He isn't getting great advice. While Dallas wouldn't be an ideal landing spot either, Philly is flush with slot receivers and Amendola will have a very hard time making the 2009 roster. He'll likely sign a futures contract this week.

Amendola leaves for Eagles

Practice squad wide receiver Danny Amendola is leaving the Cowboys for the Philadelphia Eagles. Amendola has reached an agreement to join the Eagles practice squad for the remainder of the playoffs.

Wonder if he'll hear any Cowboys' jokes about that 44-6 whipping in the locker room?

Amendola, the former Texas Tech star, is committed to the Eagles only through the rest of this season unless they activate him to the playoff roster. If this happens, the Eagles would have exclusive rights to him in 2009. The Cowboys attempted to re-sign Amendola but he wanted to wait and explore his options.

After Amendola (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent, Jerry Jones raved about him as he became the rookie minicamp and early training camp darling. But he slowly faded away as the struggled to get open and couldn't make plays in the preseason.

Amendola, often compared to ex-Red Raider Wes Welker of the Patriots, was part of the Cowboys' final cuts and has been on the team's practice squad the entire season.

The Cowboys should file tampering charges against Philly if this is true.

Amendola Says He's Headed To Philly

Apparently practice squad wide receiver Danny Amendola must think being on the Cowboys' 80-man roster heading into training camp in 2009 is a deadend to his NFL career, and says he plans on signing with Philadelphia. The former Texas Tech wide receiver said this on Friday while being interviewed during the local Cotton Bowl pregame show here on Fox before the Red Raiders took on Ole Miss in the final Cotton Bowl game to be played at the venerable Cotton Bowl.

When asked by Fox-4 sports director Mike Doocy about moving forward with the Cowboys, the 2008 practice squad wide receiver said on live TV, "Actually I'm no longer with the Cowboys. I think I'm working on a deal with Philadelphia , and I'm trying to get out there...depending if they win (Sunday) in the playoffs I'm going to be trying to get out there and start working with them."

Interesting. Yes, since Amendola finished the season on a practice squad he becomes a free agent. But, there is this little stipulation about the Cowboys having a seven-day window with exclusive negotiating rights with their own practice squad players. Uh, Dec. 29, the day after the Cowboys' season ended, and Friday, Jan. 2, the day of the Cotton Bowl, doesn't seem to add up to seven days on my 2009 calendar. Maybe there are like Leap Days on those January calendars in Philadelphia or Amendola is psychic, and just had this feeling the Eagles were going to contact him today.

Knowing Jerry, he probably gave them permission to take him.

Or maybe Jerry thought the excitement of Wade coming back would be enough to keep Danny here ?
I know I can't wait for next year. :bang2:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

We shall rue the day!

I like the kid but I'm not going to lose any sleep over him. He had some good practice other than that the guy did not do jack when given the chance in pre-season.

Absolutely they should.

But Danny is still going to have a hard time making any NFL roster.

We don't need him anyways... especially if hes gonna treat us like that.

Well, it wasn't like he was getting an opportunity in Dallas so I can see why he might want to give Philadelphia a try. Problem is, they seem to have several players with similar attributes while the Cowboys don't.

But it will be interesting to see if he develops elsewhere and comes back to haunt us.

This 'braintrust' obviously didn't think much of him since even during the receiver injury crisis he wasn't activated.

Given recent history, I give him a 50-50 chance.

Treat us like what?

He's already taken less money in order to stay with us once. Why would he do it again if he's not going to get a chance to play?

He probably wants to get the hell away from all of the drama in Dallas. I don't blame him. I wish him luck.

i can see why he wants to leave, but don't say that you wanna be a cowboy and then got to one of, if not, the most hated rival we have. personally i liked the guy cause i thought he had somethin special, but i jus wanted that special to saty with the big D.

Oh come on, do you know what practice squad guys make? You take any chance you can get when you're in that position. Period.

He is a PS player any of those guys given the oppertunity will jump at it. I think he was a good college WR not great by any means I don't think losing him means much.

He's not exactly broke, relatively speaking.

17 weeks on the practice squad at $5200/week = 88400

nobody thought that tashard choice would do much, but he was the one to help us out alot when we needed it. but its all good, some people just need to try new things in new places.

Puleaaassssseeee. I would do it in a second and so would you.
The true "rival" comes from the fans. Did you not see the tread about how sad the team was after losing to them last week? They didn't seem to mind near as much as the fans did.
