Maybe my reading comprehension needs improvement, but I didn’t come away from reading the OP as him saying Darnold is better than Dak. The point of the OP to me is it takes a complete team, including coaching, and that will never be the case in Dallas with Jerry and the culture he fosters.

And Dak’s contract and what he’s being paid is not the reason Dallas isn’t able to build a balanced, championship caliber team. It’s excuse by the Jones clan because it’s easier than the work it takes to build a championship caliber team. Now, as with Romo, it will be a problem when injury dramatically alters Dak’s abilities and career going forward. Just as with Romo, they’ll have a dead cap hit forced on them and won’t have the luxury of a planned succession.

but I disagree with all the contract is a hinderence talk. how did Eagles do it? you want to tell me 5M is the difference between a team winning superbowls and we go 7-9? we had 65M on the cap this year. had another 25 on the cap remaining after all the trades and what not.

Joneses have no idea how to build a championship team. he traded for pickens (as I predicated middle of last year he would make a splash signing). and then went garbage hunting with likes of Murray and called it the day.

at some point, cowboys and Jones have to move forward. look at Denver. good coaching. took an 89M cap hit and now in conference championship game and if not for Nix injury, might have have had a great great chance to go to superbowl (they might, but will have a tough tough time).

Contracts: It can be. Cincy letting Ogunjobie walk instead of paying him 5 mil was a huge reason they didn't make it back.

Philly won because they had D rooks on rook wages. They don't win the super bowl w/o Jalen Carter.

yes, I was looking at points against. which was 292 for seattle. which is average of 17 points per game. but yes, looking at yards, seattle was 6th.
they were tops in 3rd down conversion percentage at 32%....vs. cowboys at 47%

Well, Sam Darnold led the Seattle Seahawks to their franchise 5th NFC Conference finals. Will be his first, which makes him a better QB than Dak Prescott.

Sure, all the stats will be thrown out saying Prescott is but stats are for players contracts.
Fans --which Dallas fans are starving for-- ONLY care about ONE thing....WINS.

Then Dallas fans will say Prescott has more wins that Darnold then I say, the ONLY stats fellow starving Cowboys
care about is (FIRST) getting to a NFC Conference finals, which Prescott, nor Romo, has ever accomplished.

Then Dallas fans could/might say, Seattle has a better team around Darnold.
Then again, I say it is about WINS and if the Seahawks have a better team, which now Demarcus Lawrence plays
for and a ProBowler, then that blame directly on the grocery shopper. He buys the groceries and hired the coaches.

Like Demarcus Ware, Mr. Lawrence and future ( or current) Dallas players must get out of Dallas if they want to even play in a NFC Conference game because Jerry's Pride will never allow this franchise to see another conference finals.

I mean we could try a trade first right? But if a team isn't doing well, if player isn't as valuable as the contract, if a smart gm needs to needs a better fit....

I can think if 3 or 4 players I'd just as soon cut....take the hit for a couple years...rebuild.

Because of the bonuses. They are spread out over the life of the contract. If you cut a player, those bonuses are crowded into the present salary cap.

There's often very little difference between the top 5 or 6 Ds. In this case, Houston was clearly the best, followed by the next few.

As a new member and avowed Seahawk fan, I see it from this perspective:

At > 55 million per year, neither Josh Allen, nor Lamar Jackson, nor Dak Prescott offer more value than Sam Darnold does at 33 million per year. Darnold has 29 wins in two years, none of the others come close. In other words, the argument should NEVER be about which quarterback is better. The argument should ALWAYS be about which quarterback offers the greatest value. In fact, that axiom isn't just for quarterbacks, it holds true for EVERY position.

On another note, John Schneider's draft the last four years: Grey Zabel, Nick Emanworri, Byron Murphy II, Devon Witherspoon, Jackson Smith Njigba, Zach Charbonnet, Charles Cross, Kenneth Walker, Abrhahm Lucas, Coby Bryant, Riq Woolen. I could actually name a handful more, but the point I am trying to make is this.........QB Jalen Milroe taken in the third round and quietly developing in the background. Supreme natural talent on a rookie deal and routinely occupies a third QB spot on the 53-man roster. Do you honestly believe that John Schnieder whiffed on this guy? Remember that Russell Wilson was also a third-round pick. Did you think that Seattle popped out of nowhere in 2025? Just wait until Jalen Milroe pops out of nowhere in 2027. Quietly, silently being developed.

Big-time performance from Darnold. The defense needed him today and he delivered without much of a running game. You don't have to be elite during a season but you have to be elite in big moments in the playoffs and Darnold was elite today!
