What do you guys think about picking this guy up next year when we release Ken Hamlin? I know he's 33, but the guy makes plays everytime I watch a Saints game. Seems like he's always picking one to the house. He was really good in Minny 2 years ago too. He's got 6 INT's this year and seems to make everyone better.

Would love to have a ball hawk Safety like him and maybe alow Mike Hamlin to learn an extra year. It would be a stop gap but it could allow us to focus on other needs in the draft. Rather than reaching.

We should have signed him a couple of years ago when he was available. I was lobbying for him but we went with Hamlin instead...

Brett Maxie is coaching the safeties, Sensabaugh has been ace and Hamlin erratic, Watkins much improved so overall I'd say the mentorship is solid.

If Mike Hamlin can't learn from Sensabaugh and Maxie then what would bringing in another player-coach do?

We need a playmaker in the secondary, a guy who just has a knack for being around the ball. Sharper is just ****** uncanny at getting the ball AND jacking it back for 6. Now, Henry had a touch of that, a guy who just always seemed to be near the ball. But Sharper clearly traded his immortal soul for the ability. That said, he's awful old to be investing in - alas, we often go after folks too late in their career trajectory.

I was riding that wagon with ya.

The Cowboys actually blew 2 chances to sign him.

Once when he left Green Bay and then when he left Minnesota.

As I recall popular vote was split 50-50 between "he's too old" and "if he's so good, why is he available?"

I was pulling to get him before he signed with the Vikings back in '04-'05, and again last year. After signing w/the Vikes in 2005, Sharper went on to grab EIGHTEEN interceptions in 4 years, 3 for TDs, and 3 FFs. Wow. You think he might have helped us over the hump in 2007? The guy's been a play maker his entire career. We should try to get him until he proves otherwise.

I still say he could help out some receiver-starved teams.

St Louis and Miami spring to mind and I'm sure I could think of several others if I wasn't so lazy.

Agreed. But that boat's sailed, I wouldn't put out bucks for him at 34.

I think he lost a step a few years ago. But I also think he makes up for that, and knows where to be on the field to make plays, with all his experience.

Having a vet like him around would be good for the younger players. There really isn't anyone with the experience like Sharper on Dallas' D to be a vet leader.

I'd rather go after Dawan Landry.

who was a 5th round pick

the same round as...

our very, own Michael Hamlin

I'd rather we let the other Hamlin get the 1st crack at the FS job

Every year for the past 4-5 years people have been saying that. Then every year he owns people.

So what kind of deal do you think he's going to get? He's not going to be looking for a 1 year deal again, especially if he continues the pace that he's on. I am totally against signing a 34 year old safety for more than 2 years, it would be ridiculously stupid.

Sharper is a beast and I would welcome him over anything we have out there right now at the safety position.
