He will be 34 next year. At some point, he will lose a step.

When that happens he will only be THREE times as good as Ken Hamlin.

Currently, Sharper is TEN TIMES better than Ken Hamlin.

Agreed. But that boat's sailed, I wouldn't put out bucks for him at 34.

I agree. I'm excited to see what Mike Hamlin has to offer.

What do you guys think about picking this guy up next year when we release Ken Hamlin? I know he's 33, but the guy makes plays everytime I watch a Saints game. Seems like he's always picking one to the house. He was really good in Minny 2 years ago too. He's got 6 INT's this year and seems to make everyone better.

Would love to have a ball hawk Safety like him and maybe alow Mike Hamlin to learn an extra year. It would be a stop gap but it could allow us to focus on other needs in the draft. Rather than reaching.

Great plan... Lets see if Leroy Butler is available too...

I'd forget all about Sharper and Ken Hamlin and just draft a FS. Plenty of good ones will be there after Berry and Mays are gone...

I was riding that wagon with ya.

The Cowboys actually blew 2 chances to sign him.

Once when he left Green Bay and then when he left Minnesota.

As I recall popular vote was split 50-50 between "he's too old" and "if he's so good, why is he available?"

I wanted him when he was 29, yet still "too old and losing a step, on his way out", et cetera.

Having said that, I think his time really is coming to an end. I wouldn't trade the house for him, but I might give him a look see.

Im still not opposed to giving Alan Ball an opportunity.

He has developed into a nice player for us and he may give us a Miles Austin type of reward with more PT.

I like Major Wright.

I dont know much about the rest of these guys but im sure the kid from South Florida has a lot of potential.

South Florida has soooo many players that are super athletic and just need to be taught technique.

Earl Thomas is another guy to watch if he declares. He may be the best Safety in College football right now.

We should have signed him a couple of years ago when he was available. I was lobbying for him but we went with Hamlin instead...
b/c when we got Hamlin, Hamlin was just 27 (Sharper was 31)

But Jerry has done a good job of signing rookies/draft picks, but hasn't been so good at picking up veteran Free Agents.

Remember back before the 2004 season, we brought in two DEs; Bert Berry from Denver and Marcellus Wiley from San Diego. Jerry went with Wiley. He had just 3 sacks that year and was gone. SInce then, Berry has 37 sacks.

I always go back to that decision... yeah we're better off sticking w/ the young guys and see how they develop instead of letting Jerry go out and buy a veteran FA

I remember those debates. There were a bunch of us screaming for Jerry to sign this guy, especially when he left Green Bay.

The Cowboys missed the boat by not getting him back then.

More mula. He's a FA after this year.

...after getting rid of David and Mckenzie, the Saints secondary has improved by leaps and bounds, especially under Gregg Williams, the best defensive coordinator for some time in New Orleans...i'd bet the house that he'll get paid next year despite his age...he's having a pro-bowl season so far, leading the league in INT's iirc...i don't see New Orleans releasing him, they've only just solved their secondary issues...

Pass. The only way you take on a guy his age is if you get him relatively cheap to plug a hole where you can't find a younger guy.

More often than not, you get burned taking on older players at the end of their career. At 33, he's getting close if he doesn't hit that wall next year.

When Parcells first came to Dallas he was asked about which positions take the most punishment. I assumed he'd say RB, but he said safety and TE, his reasoning that they were involved in more collisions of the running wide open variety.

It's a little late.
I was ALL OVER the idea of getting him when he last hit FA and went to Minnesota. We didn't have anything but Keith Davis at the time and made no sense to me not to sign him.

Oh well...

Wow. How soon everyone has forgotten about Myron Rolle. I hope the other NFL teams have such short memories so Cowboys can steal him w/a 2nd.

I was on the Sharper bandwagon when he left the Pack. I've wanted him here for a while now. He would have been the perfect safety to play next to Roy. Plus he always kills the Giants, always a plus.
