I appreciate the support of the Eagles organization as we take this web site down to new levels. I have made many mistakes in my excitement over the years communicating my love of the Eagles to you, and the franchise has always backed me. There are times when my enthusiasm has to be reined in by many within the Eagles, who have always made sure to let me know when I've exceeded the boundaries of professionalism.

Fixed it for ya Dave!

For those who don't know who this character is, he is the Mickey Spagnola of the Eagles' organization. He writes for their web site and is given media credentials, then gets the first seat in the media room to lob softballs at Andy Reid and the players at their post-game news conferences. He is a tool of the Eagles' organization and planted there to affect and influence their public opinion.

He is, therefore, implicitly a reflection of their entire organization.

As others have said, no one should be surprised here. This is a completely classless organization with classless fans. The same fans who dumped beer on a 7-year old child wearing a Cowboys hat at the stadium and needed a judge and court set up in their own stadium. The same fans that cheered Michael Irvin's career-ending neck injury, and threw snowballs at Santa Claus.

And yes, this is the same TEAM that used to stomp on the opposing team's logo during pre-game, the ones who invented the term "Bounty Bowl" and took cheap shots at our kicker. They are filled with me-first players who are selfish, petulant and undeservedly arrogant.

This is the same ORGANIZATION who claims to be the "gold standard" even though they've never sniffed a trophy.

I don't think it is hyperbole to say that the entire Eagles organization, team and fan base is the very embodiment of everything that is bad about professional sports and a team game.

So no, I'm not surprised. Disgusted, yes. Surprised, no.

He should be fired! Anyone on the job spits on the workplace floor and brags about it should be sent packing.

Thats not an apology, its a justification for what he still feels was a perfectly reasonable thing to do. It fits right in with the culture of being an eagles fan. I've been to three eagles board and 100% are glad he did it. Not a single post saying thats going too far.

What the guy did was classless but for Dallas they have bigger fish to fry than to be concerned what some idiot who has nothing to do with the game does. For the Cowboys focus on what is really important that is the assignments you are responsible for, if each member of this team does that we move on to the divisional round and the classless fool can fly back to Philly and freeze his but off for the remainder of the winter.

Said it in another thread, but in the full video they also show him in the Eagles locker room where Bounty Bowl "highlights" were being shown, and when Zendejas gets cheap shotted he coos his approval with a nice "Oh... Yeah!"

Total loser.

I am still ticked off about this, why? Spadaro has done this and other things and gotten away with it. I am trying to make the NFL aware of this issue and why nothing has been done to Spadaro.

Here is the NFL phone number and address;
NFL Official Website
280 Park Ave.
New York, NY. 10017
212-450-2000

I did call, but again, my voice is terrible and they cant understand me. I thought if some of you had the time to call and speak your mind, make the NFL aware of this, and that Spadaro has done this and more.

I dont like the first spitting, but I understand it, not that I liked it, understand me here. Yet, when Spadaro says, the Cowboys deserves more, so he spit again. THAT WAS INTENTIONAL!

I know some of you may say, nothing will be done, or its no big deal, etc, but like Commissioner Goodell has said, all players, coaches, owners and personnel that work for the NFL and teams are to be held to a higher degree of accountability, honor, integrity, and sense of values etc.

Then why Goodell has the eagles organization has continued to let Spadaro continue to do this and more, and nothing done to him, just like eagles fans throwing snowballs at 49ers fans and nothing done to them.

Goodell says he wants the NFL to be cleaned up etc, well that sure isnt cleaned up.

Star Spitting Is Worst Thing To Happen In Dallas Since Kennedy Assassination

An Eagles fan/employee "defiled" Cowboys Stadium with a vicious (and viscous) attack on the city of Dallas, football fans, and basic human decency. He spit on the star at midfield. Twice. Hey, that artificial turf is expensive to steam clean!

Cowboy Nation is up in arms after Dave Spadaro, a writer for PhiladelphiaEagles.com who had field access before last week's game, concluded his regular pregame YouTube report by expectorating on the famous blue star. That star is the symbol of America's Team, so Spadaro might as well have pulled a Rick Majerus on the Star Spangled Banner (and then handed it to a team manager for Al Qaeda!) The local news is apoplectic, reporting on this devastating desecration in a tone usually reserved for stories about tornadoes and kidnappers. Channel 11 dubbed it the "spit heard round the world," and it is. Provided your world does not extend past Plano.

According to reporter Carol Cavazos, even Eagles fans—who everyone knows are the most vile *******s on the planet—thinks the loogie is going too far. (Even though she didn't quote a single one who thought so.) Spardaro did post a court-ordered apology, as if that would ever be enough to undo this "indecent" affront to God and man.

I suppose I could give the news team the benefit of the doubt and assume this is tongue-in-cheek satire of a friendly sports rivalry, but we are talking about football in Texas. This incident will surely provide plenty of extra motivation for everyone involved in this weekend's crucial playoff game, although at press time, no player from either the Cowboys or the Eagles could possibly give a ****.

The Eagles organization is saying all the right things. This guy is getting punished in the media, and behind doors they are all slapping high fives and laughing. For those who thought he would get fired, are you kidding? He's probably getting a medal, and the fans who never liked him to begin with all the sudden love him.

Eagles Official Web Insider Spits on Cowboys' Star, Blames Love of Birds
Thursday, January 07, 2010
Posted By Dan Levy 10:10 AM

There are some big rivalries in the NFL and to Philadelphia Eagles fans, there's none bigger than a week against Dallas. So when the teams play two weeks in a row, one of those games is a blowout in the Cowboys' favor and the next is a playoff game for the Eagles in Dallas, tensions flair pretty high in Philly.

And that's where things get a little confusing. Fans have this rivalry with Dallas. Certainly the players feel the rivalry too, especially in a game like last week's with the stakes being so high. But Eagles employees, like "Insider" Dave Spadaro, should be able to separate their love for the team from being a professional in an NFL environment, right?

Sadly, no.

That video was taken from the official website of the Philadelphia Eagles and re-distributed by 1053thefan.com, the website for a Dallas-Fort Worth radio station. And yes, for those who are unable to play it, that was Spadaro – a paid employee of the Eagles media/new-media department – spitting on the Star at midfield of JerryWorld. Twice.

It would be one thing if this was a fan who made the trip down to Big D to watch this favorite team and managed, on a walk-through day, to sneak down to the field and harmlessly desecrate the Cowboys logo. This is something a college kid would do, post on YouTube and be the hero of his dorm floor at Drexel or St. Joe's. This isn't something a member of the visiting franchise, only on the field because he was credentialed to be there, should be proud of, is it?

According to the site PhillySportsCast.com, Spadaro (Spuds as he's known around these parts) told 610 WIP's Howard Eskin – also on the Eagles payroll on game day as the radio sideline guy – “I was just having fun with the rivalry. People are making a big deal of it.” Spadaro also talked with the Inquirer's Jeff McLane (link via The700Level), and said the same thing:

“I did it all in fun and I’ve done it before with other teams in the spirit of the rivalry,” Spadaro said tonight. “It’s something I’ve been asked to do by Eagles fans. If I did something to offend somebody, I regret it.”
I'm sorry if anyone was offended. The non-apology apology. And rather incongruent with the statement Spadaro and the Eagles put out late last night. In part:

As you may have seen, I went too far with my Spudcam video prior to Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Acting alone, and without permission from the Eagles organization, I walked out to the middle of the field at Cowboys Stadium and spit on the Cowboys star, and for that I deeply apologize to the outstanding Cowboys organization and the fine people there, from Jerry Jones to the rest of the team.
It was not my intention to insult the Cowboys. It was my intention to enjoy the spirit of a great sports rivalry, and I clearly went over the line and acted unprofessionally. The Cowboys have always been gracious hosts and I appreciate the relationship I have with the friends I have there.

I admit I get carried away with my love of the Philadelphia Eagles, and if this is a crime, I am clearly guilty. Game days are an incredible experience for me. The will to win is unlike anything I have ever felt. The angst and the tightly-knotted stomach and the ups and downs of 60 minutes of Eagles football leave me thoroughly drained -- win or lose -- and I enjoy having the opportunity to communicate that to the many great Eagles fans who follow this team on a (many-times) daily basis.
Let's just remind everyone that this guy isn't the starting middle linebacker. He's their website writer who handles postgame coverage online and does some cute web features. The guy used to be a journalist. But you can't blame the guy. Reading the line 'the will to win is unlike anything I have ever felt' or 'the angst and the tightly-knotted stomach ... leave me thoroughly drained' from a guy who works in the PR office – I almost did a spit take too.

Then there's the subtext of the situation. Spuds is catering to a different breed of Philly sports fan at PhiladelphiaEagles.com. Most of the media in town have little-to-no respect for Spadaro after, several years ago, he signed on to be the official Eagles spin machine. He's often maligned by local sportswriters and sports talk radio hosts. Most fans are savvy enough to, at best, take his homerism with the proper perspective or, usually, avoid it altogether.

But there are still some fans who love the team, love everything about the team, want to be as close to the team as possible and, if given the same credential, would also spit on the star and put a video online bragging about too. To them, Spadaro is a hero:

Dave u r a LEGEND ... you did what any other passionate Eagles fans would do ... the fact your getting punished just shows the spineless disenchanted nature of the organisation ... I have a new found respect for you :D (jbreitenbach 1/7/10 4:27am ET)
Spuds is just living every true Eagles fan's dream. The guys in the dorm are gonna be so stoked.

Spit Happens: An Eagle Desecrates Cowboys Stadium

By Richie Whitt in Dallas Cowboys
Thu., Jan. 7 2010 @ 9:00AM

It all started with a phone call to 105.3 The Fan's Sybil Summers. A tip that the Philadelphia Eagles' web site was posting something or other about Cowboys Stadium's sacred star. A little investigative digging and - voila - Cowboys-Eagles III just got more interesting.

The Bounty Bowl. Randall Cunningham's fake kneel-down touchdown pass. Booing a seriously injured Michael Irvin. Hurling batteries at Jimmy Johnson. All step aside, this may be the most despicable act in the history of the Cowboys-Eagles rivalry.

Dave Spadaro, writer for the Eagles' team web site (imagine Mickey Spagnola pulling this stunt) and the author of an edgy video diary called "Spudcam", went on the field before Sunday's 24-0 game and spit not once, but twice on the middle of the field. Terrell Owens' act seems almost angelic now, eh?
Most telling two words in the video: "Nobody looks ..." Wussy. With a capital P.
The Fan afternoon show (Gregg and Barsky) organized its troops and attacked the Eagles and famed Philly sports talk station WIP. After the station so bogged down it surrendered (calling Fan program director Tom Bigby with a plea to call off the dogs), the Eagles yanked down the offensive video and Spadaro issued an apology.
"As you may have seen, I went too far with my Spudcam video prior to Sunday's game against the Cowboys," Spadaro wrote. "Acting alone, and without permission from the Eagles organization, I walked out to the middle of the field at Cowboys Stadium and spit on the Cowboys star, and for that I deeply apologize to the outstanding Cowboys organization and the fine people there, from Jerry Jones to the rest of the team."
The incident is going national - per profootballtalk.com - but will it have any effect on Saturday night's game?

Since owner Jerry Jones is taking the high road and not pulling Spadaro's pass, I'm assuming he'll be in the house Saturday night. But remember, the Cowboys used NBC analyst Tony Dungy's "No chance" video to amp their levels before the Saints game, I'm thinking gathering the guys around to watch an Eagle spit on the star can't hurt.

One question -- has this story made ESPN yet?

Think it would've if a Cowboys employee had done this?
