David Arkin in Garretts words

“There's probably nobody on our football team who works harder and is more committed than David Arkin. He’s the right kind of guy and he's working at it and he's getting better. I think he has improved over the last couple of years and that's why we're happy to get him back and put him back on the practice roster and continue that development.”

This is what is wrong with how we evaluate talent.

3 years and he has been active for ONE game. And would not be on the roster now except for Waters injury.

It takes time.

Do you think the bacon on your plate just magically appeared? That piggy took months to fatten up before he was taken to market and became a wonderful breakfast item. Give Arkin time. :D

Let me say this about David Arkin.
While it appears he has zero NFL ability; he would not be the first guy who developed into a player over time if that did occur.

Let's recall we have given up on guys who had long NFL careers plenty of times.

OL can be developed.
All that said, 3 years of a roster slot is quite a price to pay so he had better develop and do so quickly or the team looks foolish.

He has had THREE YEARS to show enough to be active on game day. And the only time was when basically he was all that was left.

Having good character is not a substitute for a complete lack of talent.

Of course not, but the two have absolutely nothing to do with one another. You could just as easily pick another arbitrary characteristic, something like "Why do we draft white guys like Johnson and Coale? They never pan out!" It has nothing to do with anything. Dallas has drafted plenty of bad-character duds.

The only reason Arkin was not cut is that it was Garrett's First Draft as HC and he pushed his RKG crap on us after that day. Any other HC would have canned Arkin after a few practices. Arkin will be eligible for an NFL Pension very soon without every playing a snap. That is the life.

Talk about easy money. Never has to play in real games and get hit by the real players.

Actually, they have been very reluctant to roll the dice on character risks since Garrett has been in charge. Parcells left the "in the box" concept and it appears to be used more often than not, especially since the disaster with Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson.

Right kind of guy... man that phrase just makes me chuckle...

To be fair, more often than not it's the right decision. Besides, they'll gamble when it's worth it -- look at Dez Bryant.

it makes me sick. RKG gets you david arkin and matt johnson while the bengals steal vontaze burfict and the lions steal warford.
