For those interested, less than 1/3 of first rounders taken (319) in the last ten years (ending in 2011...sorry no newer data) have made at least one pro bowl. It's 22% for tackles and interestingly 43% for centers and guards. And of those, 14% of tackles, 29% of centers and again interestingly 43% of guards made more than one pro bowl appearance. Over 80% of first rounders never make multiple pro bowls. The best bets in the first are, surprise, LBs and safeties. So you may want to back off Jerry and the rest of the GMs since as I've stated before the draft is a crap shoot. Before you ask I don't know what the rates of success are in any terms for 4th round guards picked out of iddy biddy schools are. Low is the rumor.

You don't draft a player that high if they won't be ready to contribute within 2 years. One sure, but two? No chance when you'll only have them under contract for 3 + 1 restricted year. Spending three years developing a player and taking up a roster spot for one year of production is not how you become successful.

I think he's where he belongs, on the practice squad. Some players take longer to develop. I just think fans expect to much all the time. Sure, there are guys like Frederic, Dez and Williams. But those guys are somewhat the exception and first round draft picks. I get what you're saying, but that's the reality of it when you draft players in the mid to later rounds. We almost gave up on Austin too. But he turned out to be a good player, et cetera. Not every player is the same. When fans think like that, it's stupid.

Let's be fair, Arkin was the lone wart of a darn good draft in 2011. Tyron Smith, Bruce Carter, and DeMarco Murray are all starters and Dwayne Harris is one of the best returners in the NFL.

And where was he going to contribute? LG, RG? We filled those positions. He was going to be a decent back up. Maybe next year he'll come around. But we knew from the start, it wouldn't be his rookie year nor this year.

No arguments there. I just think the RKG thing has nothing to with why Arkin is a flop.

Has nothing to do with why he is a flop. Has everything to do with why he is still on the team,

After all - RKG trumps talent for Wrong Kind of Coach .
