The video he just released for Lazarus (lyrics aside) was an apt goodbye message.

Lying in a hospital bed agonizing
Death underneath the bed
Skull on the desk while his creative juices are flowing
The fashion closet doubling as a coffin (including the last shot of going in)

yea, almost as if he knew.

This one really hurts. I'll never forget I was on the bus to work, right on the Potomac river, heading into DC when I discovered this horrible news.

He knew for 18 months he was dying, and gave us one final album as a parting gift.

What an incredible talent, what an incredible influence he had on music.

RIP David. :(

Look up here, I’m in heaven
I’ve got scars that can’t be seen
I’ve got drama, can’t be stolen
Everybody knows me now

Look up here, man, I’m in danger
I’ve got nothing left to lose
I’m so high it makes my brain whirl
Dropped my cell phone down below

Ain’t that just like me

By the time I got to New York
I was living like a king
Then I used up all my money
I was looking for your ***

This way or no way
You know, I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now ain’t that just like me

Oh I’ll be free
Just like that bluebird
Oh I’ll be free
Ain’t that just like me

Wow RIP. Didn't he just put a new album out like THIS week?

Yep. The album is called Blackstar. I think it released on his birthday and then a couple days later he died.

Weird how sometimes people seem to be able to hold on just long enough to reach a specific event like a birthday or holiday, or for family to arrive, and then they just let go.

i'm hearing from one of my DJs that the album was done as his final goodbye so to speak and if so, thats kinda genius.

my grandmother, after losing my grandfather and great aunt, went to live with my parents after she was left alone in missouri. when my mom came home from the hospital with the news that she was "treatable but not curable" and it was only a matter of time, my grandmother literally died within the next week. from what happened and the timing, i'm convinced she did not want to outlive all her children.

I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most the peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm fast one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much (she knows!)

That is awesome and genius.

Side note: china girl and let's dance are awesome songs.

I recently started video diaries for my daughter and soon to be born new daughter.

Rest in Peace David Jones, David Bowie, Ziggy Stardust, Major Tom, et al.

Sad to hear the news, but what a life. He spent his time on earth living about as productive and creative a life as anyone could imagine. There was a period of his career where he looked uncomfortably similar to my mother. Seriously, that was weird. :p Aside from that though, he's probably the biggest chunk of my music collection. One of the best Christmas gifts I ever received as a kid was his Sound + Vision box set.

Haven't listened to it yet, but that album he released just a couple days ago was his 27th studio album. I imagine there are only a couple others still alive who are in the same stratosphere and they're all probably 65+ years old or jazz musicians. That era seems to be over.

I can imagine. I don't have kids and hopefully have plenty of decades left, but the idea of outliving my siblings and being the last one out is not appealing. Outliving one's kids seems so much worse.

Very talented and very versatile performer. He helped bring Stevie Ray Vaughan to national recognition. RIP to one of the real underrated performers in rock history.
