David Irving quitting the NFL over Marijuana policy 'makes no sense'-Stephen A-FTF

I believe in principle what Irvin is saying.

Like Kapernick..if you believe it and say it publically..

you may deal with the fallout.

But to be unhappy your employer excludes it's use in your contract and you are going to cost yourself being a miiionaire in the process is mentally a big mistake.

This is an interesting debate along the lines of our discussions here.

David Irvin to me like Gregory..

was a high risk signing because our DL was so massively damaged after DeMarcus Ware was released..

the FO was churning the bottom of the barrel to field some sort of DL.

That is only the reason you would draft a guy like Gregory so high as we did knowing he had failed a Combine drug test before selecting him.

And then there is Tank and his suspension for 4 games his second year.

So while Marijuana can be debated..our FO transactions are pretty questionable, too.

It has come home to roost now and the team is clearly drowning in its decisions with our DL.

My employer prohibits the use of marijuana. As an employee I have to follow those rules or not have a job. The same rules apply to him. Its ok if he wants to get high he just needs to find a job that will be ok with him doing that.

When he grows up he will regret his youthful stupidity. If he is as talented as he claims he is, then he had a chance to makes tens of millions of dollars over an 8 or 10 year career. He was offered a tradeoff. Take $30 million or more in exchange to not smoking pot for 8-10 years. He said "no", I'll take the pot for nothing. David does not strike me as a particularly smart guy and he is certainly not motivated (perhaps its the pot holding him back?). What else is he going to do to earn a living and support his daughter? Oh, yes. By the time David is 40 he will be singing a different tune. Maybe he should have had a talk with Thomas Henderson before he made his decision to become a pothead for a living.

We probably have millions of citizens who have not pursued better careers and or positions because they couldn’t pass a pre hire drug screening.

We have prob an entire generation now in this country( most companies began pre hire drug screening in the 90’s) that have chisen different fields because they knew they couldn’t pass a test and another portion who have failed random drug test.

My point is Irving's behavior has been fairly consistent since they acquired him 3-4 years ago. And I'm sure there are things the organization has been aware of that did not make it to the media. I don't think the front office is shocked by this recent development. Yet they chose to gamble on the player's talent when it was well within their ability to move on from him a while ago, whether that's years or months.
