David Irving

Irving is not fetching a 1st round pick. If a team wants him for a 2nd, let him walk. His play is too spotty anyway. He's available, then he's not available. He's a terror, then he disappears.
Let him go if he gets a better deal. I'd love to get a 2nd round pick in return.

The only question I have about Irving is availability

How is his play spotty? The guy is a monster and easily worth a first rounder.

Hell yeah!!! Take the second round pick and maybe if we’re lucky, in a few years the guy pans out to be as good as.... David Irving!
This is a salary cap sport. If you can get 75% David Irving's production for 25% the cost, that's a big win for the team. Same reason a lot of us are critical of Dez and Witten.

Plus he only played in 7 games. People underrate availability.

I really like him and when he's on, he's ON. BUT. He's been suspended before and who knows if this concussion injury will linger around. Second round pick? I'd take that.

We’ve been searching for a pressure player and one finally falls in our lap that can play any position on the DL and we will just let him walk for a 2nd?

Are you guys serious? David Irving is incredible and we should be building around that guy.

Maybe he’s a little immature but he’s worth it and these millionaire coaches that use the same gameplan every Sunday need to do whatever it takes to keep his head on straight.

This player is worth whatever headache he causes.

I’d buy that if the team had a penchant for using savings productively. I don’t underrate availability, I just understand circumstance and view things differently than some. The guy is a monster

If there were "no" problems I would just pay him to a long term deal. He had a bad concussion and for some reason I don't trust the situation. I would take the 2nd round pick at this point.

If the Cowboys are thinking about a 2nd round tender instead of a 1st rounder, I think you may see a team bite and that may be all part of the Cowboys plan. They may see him as a risk for a longer suspension and know full well after this season they don't plan to sign him to a long term contract. If that's the case they could get a 2nd rounder this year as opposed to compensatory 3rd round pick next year.

Then again maybe I'm over thinking this and teams value him less also with concerns around suspensions, injuries, and lack of consistency.

Maybe some of you should look at how we've been doing with our 2nd round pick under JG.

Bruce Carter
Morris Claiborne ( Used 2nd rounder to move up)
Gavin Escobar (Out of the league)
Demarcus Lawrence ( Great this year but also has a suspension under his belt)
Randy Gregory (Suspended )
Jaylon Smith (Didn't play 1st year and pretty bad most of this year)
Chidobe Awuzie (Injured most of the year, showed some promise at the end)

Irving has 11 sacks in 10 games he started. Unless his cocussion issue is career threatening, I try to keep him on the team.

I feel like it’s bet hedging. No one is giving a first and paying him, so assigning that tender is effectively saying “we are signing him long term no questions asked.” With the 2nd round tender they can see if anyone bites and weigh it out at that point. If no one does it’s potentially leverage towards contract worth.

broaddus has hinted dallas would be ok with him leaving for a 2nd round....

What? How is Irving on the verge of being Randy Gregory? He was suspended for 4 games. So was DLaw. Is Lawrence also on the verge of being Randy Gregoy? LOL.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Actually...yeah...their both walking a fine line. I think the league would like nothing better than seeing our franchise suffer in misery. And what better way than to decimate our D-line w/ suspensions?

You have to match the offer?

I thought a team could offer the pick, or you could sign him for the amount you tendered him. Ie: he couldn't get 19mill

Considering his health issues and background I am going to go ahead and say nobody gives up a 2 in any scenario.
I hope your right, but I don’t think you are. He was have an outstanding year up until his concussion. I think to many people value draft picks( unproven players) over proven players. If there was a player of his talent and circumstances on another team that played a position of need I would hope we would look seriously about giving up a second round pick for that player.

So we should not resign anyone who's been suspended? I hate to tell you but this team needs to get MORE talent. Not get rid of any that we already have.

Man every time I see this list I get physically ill. To add insult to injury Stephen does not believe in free agency which makes the margin for error in the draft that much smaller. They can't afford to miss with their top picks and yet have repeatedly whiffed or taken ill advised risks with premium second round picks. So because of Brandon Carr Stephen has decided that free agency is a total waste of time? Every fan knows we can't afford to give some dude 90 million, but instead of filling gaps in the roster with a few solid FA's they get a bad CB who Philly fans couldn't wait to get rid of, A DT with a bum knee and D. Moore? Sheesh.
