Irving is only 23 years old and was considered a long-term project when KC signed him to their PS.

edit - his birthday is in August, so he just turned 23, too. There's plenty of potential with the kid.
Well that's what I eluded to. He's a young guy. There are some rookies who are 23 or 24 in this league. The inconsistencies could simply be product of his youth.

He has played more DT than DE. He has played 3-tech and is normally the "nose tackle" when they play a 3 man DL in passing situations.

That's interesting.....maybe they viewed him as someone who could be a Jason Hatcher type.......they might want to exploit his measurables on the outside.

I hate to say I told you so, but I've been pushing to get him moved over for half the season. Irving is our most athletic DL, & our future LDE. The man has a freakish body at 6-7, 280, & is just too hard for most RTs to handle. Plus, you can see him gaining confidence every week. I mentioned at the beginning of the season, that if Irving elevated his game this year, he would be a match-up nightmare. Great to see him succeed. He & Maliek Collins made life miserable for the QB, and are the future on the left side of the D-line.

I don't have the snap count for the Bucs games, but here are his snaps on a percentage basis prior to the Bucs game.

I don't have stats on DT vs DE but he played mostly DT in the middle of the season and played more DE last week and I think only DE against the Bucs. IIRC he played some DE at the beginning of the season when Lawrence was suspended.

Note: He was ejected week 9.

Notice that Collins helped clear a path for him on this play and McClain drew the double-team.

Notice also that LT uncalled facemask on the same play.

He actually pushes Collins out of his way to QB.

The entire line was getting pressure on that play.

Good observation. I saw more than one blatant holding and at least one other hands-to-the face by their OL.

The holding by Tyron was holding but they choose to ignore holding on dozens of plays but always seem to call it when the Cowboy have a big play.

FYI - Some blogger once posted stats of the regions where NFL refs reside and the vast majority were in the East and most of those were NorthEast. IIRC few if any were from Texas at that time.

You are correct, the last two games our DL are getting hands to the face penatlies commited against them constantly and they are not called and like you say they are calling our OL on a regular basis, truly is frustrating.

Could be the next "Too Tall Jones".

Where are you getting snap count numbers now that PFF doesn't provide it?
Pro football reference has it, and Football outsiders has it.

It's actually freely distributed by NFL I think, just needs to be compiled.
