David Nelson's Antics

The only problem I had with it was it was so cliche, come up with something new

Yes, it was planned, and yes it put her in an awkward position on national television, but it's not like he bobbed and weaved through the Dallas sideline to get to her.

Outrage is a bit strong.

For one, you do realize that players receive significant fines for not pulling their socks all the way up right? So with that in mind, I don't think it's ridiculous to assert that he should receive a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct. That celebration was more grandiose and contrived then ANY touchdown celebration in the endzone that we've seen all season. David Nelson shouldn't be able to circumvent the spirit of the rule by executing the stunt in the cheerleaders area, which by the way is not an area the players are authorized to enter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the designated player area on the sideline is outlined in chalk and spans from the 30 yard line to 30 yard line. So yes, I do think given the points I just outlined that he should and likely will receive a fine.

Secondly, I was exaggerating to emphasize my point. Do I think she should have been fired mid game? No. Do I think she should be on the squad next year. No.

Technically he shouldn't be fined. you can celebrate however you want on the sideline. No penalty for excessive celebration. Why is this such an issue to you. Dude he scored, he was happy, he hugged his GF and gave he the ball. Get over it already.

...for humour and if there is a chance - sarcasm in the situation.

I think every Cowboy who scored should have ran and got their footballs and gone over to her for a hug and gave her their game balls.

Murray, Newman and Bailey (3) could have given her (5) Dallas scoring footballs to her one Buffalo score.

Then they could have sold them collection on the internet along with pictures of each player plus the cheerleader and donated the proceeds to some needy charity.

You can make something big out of this or you can make something better. For me it's better to make fun of it and then do some good with it later. These are people with an incredible opportunity in life based on what they do physically or how they look physically don't miss the bus.

I agree. League has no issue how the player celebrate on the sideline that is not considered the field of play. In the end he gave his GF the ball after a TD and hugged her. Chances are with him in Buffalo and her in Dallas they don't see each other that often until the season is over. In the end it was no big deal just as it is no big deal when a player hands to ball to someone in the stands.

It surprised me but i didn’t think it was a big deal.

Real life > Football game

Couldn't have said it better.

If you're actually upset or consumed with this little trivial bit that had no effect on the football game, it is a serious reflection of the sad state of affairs in your own life.

Real life > something that happened at a sports entertainment event

It didn't bother me much.

After all, this is the "Look at me, I'm on video and ain't I cute" era.
At least he didn't propose like a lot of duffuses.
At least he didn't (stupidly) put a ring in custard pudding for his intended to choke on.
But it bring to mind: Maybe the girl should be wearing a Bills uni and freezing her ash in Buffalo.

I am sure that Ozzie and Harriet would concur.

How was it part of the natural flow of the game? It's just as unsportsmanlike as a contrived endzone celebration. Why did the NFL make it illegal to take your helmet off after a TD? Why did players take off their helmet following a TD in the first place? Because they were screaming "look at me everybody" and the NFL decided it was inappropriate. I'm predicting that the NFL will decide David Nelson's stunt was also inappropriate and that he will receive a fine. Maybe I'm wrong about that prediction and if so I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong.

It was in the sidelines.

Doesn't get flagged on the sidelines.

To be honest, it would've bother me if his TD pushed the Bills lead to 21-7. But of course anything at that point anything would have pissed me off.;)

As it played out, who cares.

When a player hands the ball to someone in the stands he typically doesn't announce to reporters a week in advance that he is going to do something incredibly original and surprise everybody. Again, this comes down to another attention starved athlete acting in a way that says "please look at me, pay me attention".

I would have told her to hit the showers and clean out her locker at halftime.

I think people like you should get over yourself. It's a game. It's entertainment.

They could give him a fine, but to fire her on the spot? Ridiculous.

The league is doing every thing they can to stop that.
Why not fire cheerleaders.;)

I think Rob Ryan should have had his way with Nelson's Mother in retaliation!:fogeys:

I have and understand EXACTLY what Nelson was thinking.

Being in love is such a wonderful thing, especially when it's innocent and pure.

:)

Do not try to explain love to haters.
It is a foreign emotion to them.

and so what? I don't see why this is so upsetting to some. It does not bother me if he told reporters if I scores I'm giving my GF, my mother, father or brother the ball. If this act offends you then you got some pretty thin skin

It was a romantic gesture to a girl he obviously cares about, and you need to take yourself less seriously. In my humble opinion, of course. That you have spent any time worrying about this is more an indication of how bored you are than it is an indictment of what he did. It wasn't about showing up the Dallas Cowboys. It was about making his girl feel special. Breathe.

The world could use more gestures of love, not more outrage.

:signmast: This was my feeling. They showed pictures of them with their fists up, smiling for the camera, in the event that this would occur. It was cute and had no effect on the game. I only wonder what they did to help him recover after the game.:p:
