The lack of deep plays is mostly scheme related, not necessarily the coverage ability and ground covering of either of our safeties

You still need players to follow the scheme. If the players do what the scheme was designed to do you still have to give credit to the player as well.

Wilcox cracked me up when he gave the ole to Lynch. He was not taking him on head up, but he should have at least tried to hang on for the ride.

Ont he play that the Wilcox handwaving has seen saw Hayden turned, driven and pancaked. McClain filled the wrong hole. Durant got pancaked too. But in the openfield against a top 5 back he guesses wrong and fails to make a tackle.

People fixate on THAT?

While the scheme might put S in position to take the deep ball away, it still has to be executed. Teams try to bait deep coverage up with double moves, and route combinations as a matter of course. The players have to execute. Also the sing a double S looks we have been using are hardly new. Lack of deep balls should see credit to the S. It is what it is.

I thought he was too far inside and Lynch made a phenomenal cut. I am curious why people are not taking a big dump on Church for doing the same thing against Foster the week before in a more confined space.

People need their whipping boy I guess.

Broaddus has mentioned in a couple places and I think Wilcox confirmed it himself is that he's seeing the field better. He's making his reads quicker.

Reality is that he has the speed and can hit
Just needs the reps

You simply have to give guys time to develop in this league. Rarely do you have some runaway talent that just dominates their first year in. Wilcox is fairly new to the position in general, so it was always going to take him some time to put the pieces together. One thing you notice about Wilcox though is he is a hitter and he's not afraid to mix it up like when him and Dez got into a scuffle in training camp.

As I said before, our safeties are good enough and I like them.

I can only hope for more pass rush depth via the draft, next year.

There was one big pass that Seattle got on us. But after further review, it was nothing more than an illegal pick which should have been called. Wilcox got faked out on that long run by Mershawn and its not easy tackling the Beast in the open field. So I give credit to Lynch more than anything else. But other than that he played solid. Heck, the entire defense played solid. Can't really complain too much on how they contained Wilson and that entire Seattle offense. It was a clinic.

Thanks. Missed that first big pass, as our local channel , scheduled to show Dallas/Seattle, continued on with another game... Didn't find our game until I searched a normally blacked out DTV channel and picked up the rest of the game.

Agree on the clinic. Sort of " Seattled " Seattle.......

Teams watch film. If they felt they could exploit, Wilcox. They would, over and over. This is the pro level. Scheme can't hide you for to long.

And my fear the first few weeks was that JJ was being exploited- and on occasion he was. But like any young player you get plateaus and improvement. You keep playing, keep giving great effort (and JJ has since day 1), and boom all of a sudden you're pretty good. Repeat... boom all of a sudden you're definitely good.

I think it's happening for JJ, and I noticed Heath on the field quite a bit this past game. Credit him for not allowing the 'Hawks to exploit his ball skill deficiencies to date. Perhaps these players are getting good coaching... yes?

One thing Dawkins knows about is the safety position. Interesting take on Wilcox.

Confidence is a big thing with players. It builts. As you realize you've been making good decisions then you trust your decisions and react faster to plays....thereby making more plays. This is especially true for a young player like Wilcox.

Oh it is. I've said that about the cornerback position specifically Richard Sherman. Sherman is 40% swagger and it helps him with his position. Confidence and swagger go along way. IMO, that's something Claiborne is missing. He just looks like a guy just happy to be out there and learning position when he needs to look like he BELONGS out there. Scandrick and Carr have it in them.

Good to hear this positive development re Wilcox. Also recall he has as low as a 4.43 40 time so wanting to see him run back a pick 5 at some point.

Might as well start with one from Eli.

What is he going to get there so fast the NFL is going to deem it only worht 5 points.
