Day of the Tag, what will we do?

The franchise tag is a tool smart teams can use to get another year out of a player who is one of the best at his position (top 5) on a low risk one year deal. Any Cowboy player who would be in danger of finding themselves in this position will hold out for a record breaking deal long before letting this happen to them.

I'd probably give the tag to either Wilson or Schultz and take Bijan Robinson in round 1. I think Robinson can do what both Zeke and Pollard do as strengths, so he's more efficient and cost effective. Meanwhile, Wilson has become a very good safety, and it'd be nice to keep Schultz if we can.
A first round pick is not cost effective.

It is more cost effective than giving Pollard 10 million dollars when you can draft a back, buy a free agent receiver, and get a draft pick for Pollard.

I don't know if i'd tag any of our own players unless its a transition tag to allow other teams to basically pay the cowboys a draft pick to sign them. Pollard will not live up to a big contract or tag coming off his injury and he is not a 20 carry back. Let someone else overpay pollard. if no one steps up then come back and make him a 1 or 2 year offer. Zeke should be cut and you look at drafting a replacement but also look at some cheap free agents as well. gotta stop paying rb's it just doesn't work out often. They are best right out of college on their initial draft contract.

You’re going to pay that first round RB around 5 million anyway. It’s the pick that’s expensive. I would be fine with bjon at 26 if there’s nothing left. But I would prefer a top guard at 26 and RB in 2nd or 3rd. I’m all for trading pollard.

It’s about the line not the back.

I'm ok with Schmitz or Vorhees between 26 and 58. It could make sense with the oline shortage league wide.

don't worry free agency will start and not a cricket will be heard they will all be out partying on the big boat and talking among themselves on how dumb the fans are and then at the last they will some scrub free agent that might play on his contract or maybe not like washington did.
Hate to pass on a good Jerry bashing opportunity, but I think they truly try their damnedest to win….they just suck at it, can’t admit it, and don’t have to answer for it.

People with that kind of money think very highly of themselves, and it never occurs to them that someone may possibly do a better job than they can.

I think if they win 12 games for the 3rd year in a row, they aren't sucking at it anymore.

Why on GODs green earth would you ever tag a running back. Especially one who has had injury’s and just suffered a severe injury and he most likely won’t even contribute til October. Please do not do it RB’s are a dime a dozen in todays nfl

Depends how you see it.

They really need to get past the divisional round then much of that kind of talk will go away.

I don't think they will use it. They will have to pay something like the average salary of the top three players at the position and I don't know any Cowboys free agent players that are worth it.

I think their new strategy at RB calls for draft picks that you can run into the ground every three to four years.

What are the rules for offering a 2nd round tender franchise tag?

*If* you can an extra 2nd rounder, then you save the money on Pollard (which will skyrocket again in 2024), you release Zeke (save the huge money spent there), then have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds and likely take a running back in round 2 or 3. The RB likely won't be as good as Pollard initially, but the position won't be desperate and we use our money savings on another position.

*If* no one signs Pollard, then the salary is a little lower (top 10 players, not top 5 players at the position) than the 1st round tender.

If we are smart, we won’t tag anyone.

Try to sign Wilson and Pollard to reasonable 2-3 year deals paying Pollard 5-6 million per year and giving Wilson starting safety money (despite not officially starting). If they don’t sign, let them both explore the market. I don’t believe any team is going to pay Pollard 8-10 million per year….he can prove me wrong.
