I agree....but the way they've been hyping him up.....I can't see Gathers going anywhere so it's going to depend on who has the highest ceiling.Ya, no way we keep 4 TEs, if Rico is the 4th and won't see the field. Rather use that spot for one of the DL.
What are the changes of 3 guys getting injured though?Well I could easily be wrong but I see Witten, Hanna, Swaim and Rico. 4 gives you a buffer for injuries during the season. But we've flown with less.

I think you are going to be surprised. If Gathers shows anything during the preseason (reports are he has made drastic improvements), then he doesn't clear waivers. Witten obviously isnt going anywhere, and they really like Swaim and Hanna. What 4 TE's? I can't see both Gaithers and Swaim making it. I honestly don't see the point in having both Hanna and Swaim.
Only way I think it could be his final season is they win the Superbowl. Maybe not even then. What gives you that idea? I think Dak and Zeke have rejuvenated Witt ....... he looked and acted like a young player on the field last year.

I wonder in this offense with Dak does he get more looks out there?
Would be a shame if Rico doesn't make the team, seems to me, Romo spoke highly about his progression last season. At 6'8" and his athletic ability, he would virtually be unstoppable even if all he played was Redzone offense. Another year under his belt, Rico really could be a threat. But most here would rather Dallas draft 'em, coach 'em, then let him sign somewhere else. I'd rather give the guy a chance. Hell, the last TE Romo really liked will be wearing a gold jacket when his career is done.
But do they like them enough to cut a guy on the defense for?I think you are going to be surprised. You only need one to be without margin. Two and you're looking on the street.

That's true...but the same can be said for the rest of the team. You lose a defensive end you lose depth.
Seems that way to many of us, I'm sure. The team might well be very reluctant to relegate Rico to the PS where he'd most likely be pilfered quickly. They also might not be inclined to cut him after investing so much time and energy into developing him to this point. He'd quite certainly represent an awful lot of upside to send packing this year. I can't see it happening, unless the hype we've heard about him greatly exceeds his true ability.
If its a shorter position, Rico is gone. He's too tall.TE is a shorter position. But we can roll with three. If so who goes Swaim or Rico assuming no injuries ?
I think teams have to take chances on high upside guys like Rico (The Leon Lett types).
IMO, you don't go to the SB with a team full of Hanna/Swain types.
I like Hanna as utility guy but Swaim seems very similar and under contract for longer at a lower salary. Swaim might even be better as a receiver than Hanna.Excellent -- great minds think alike, I see. Rico may not be the cat's meow just yet but later on this year or maybe next, look out!

I can see four TE's on the team as long as the Cowboys feel comfortable keeping just eight active OL.
My concern is they'll have to cut somebody in October once David Irving's suspension is lifted. 10 or 11 DL's seems heavy. And they might keep an extra RB in case of a short EE suspension (which the league will probably wait to announce until right before the season to catch Dallas off guard).
More often than not a player gets injured in the 1st four games and a spot opens up.
I don't mind the 4 game suspensions of players like Irving because it gives them and extra roster spot for 4 weeks. Many things tend to sort themselves out during those first few weeks. You're right, but I don't want to think about that. I want a healthy team all year, as unrealistic as it sounds.
