stasheroo;2657782 said:From what I saw, the guy played well when he finally got his chance.
So my question would be, what took so long for that chance?
AbeBeta;2657791 said:I assume that our coaching staff thought he sucked in practice.
stasheroo;2657802 said:And I would assume that maybe our coaching staff 'sucks'.
The same staff that thinks Procter is worth anything.
The same staff that was responsible for Brad Johnson stealing $5 million when he couldn't play anymore.
The same staff that thinks that Free and McQuistan should stick around for no apparent reason.
That's where I place my blame.

Same old tired takes.

Wade didn't want to bench Brad Johnson
didn't want to play Choice
didn't want Spencer starting
didn't want Holland starting, if Holland was getting more reps and had more playing time, it's possible that he doesn't get hurt, and we have a fighting chance
stasheroo;2657819 said:Shhhhhh..
Apparently this is some 'tired argument'.
Never mind that it's true.
Woods;2657818 said:I haven't given up on Free yet. We haven't really seen enough at this stage.
stasheroo;2657829 said:Yeah, but it doesn't instill much confidence when they'd rather trot a one-armed Flozell out there while Free is inactive.
Seems to me to be one of two things:
1) Free sucks
or
2) The coaching staff's evaluations do
Either one strikes me as bad.
iRoot4Losers;2657832 said:again, it goes back to the coaching staff's irrational fear of playing younger players

Woods;2657848 said:There could be other reasons as well including,
(1) Flo thought he could gut it out - professional pride, and/or
(2) The coaching staff doesn't trust inexperienced players (as has been mentioned by other posters)

stasheroo;2657860 said:If Flo said he could 'gut it out', that's fine. He could have been given the chance. But that doesn't explain for me why Free wasn't even activated just in case Flo was wrong.
As for not trusting 'inexperienced players', exactly when would an inexperienced player ever become an experienced player if you don't trust them at some point?
I think that's a part of the reason why almost every starter on this team is a big-money player and the Cowboys never seem to get a 'bargain' anywhere.
Woods;2657882 said:I generally agree with you. We should have played guys like F Jones more early on, etc.
But with respect to Free, my only point is that I don't think any of us (casual fans) really know what we have in him.
I would assume this is a key off-season for D Free.
AbeBeta;2657861 said:Johnson? What young guy was behind him? Bollinger? That's some option.
AbeBeta said:Spencer didn't "start" but he for all intents and purposes took all of Ellis' snaps. Spencer didn't get the first play in the game but that was it.
AbeBeta said:Holland? Are you freaking serious? Holland is a young guy and Proctor a vet? Proctor had been in the league 3 years and was 25 at the start of last season. Holland was in the league 5 years and was 28 at the start of last season. Holland had 48 starts under his belt. Proctor had 2.
