well, that qualifies as a Hot Sports Opinion,,, I think Kosier's "most valuable" status is directly related to the fact that he's the one lineman that went down last year and our lack of depth made it seem like we lost a pro-bowler, lol... I will say that he is highly underrated though,,,

He calls the blitz pickups. Gurode is too dumb to do that. Good thing he's a good blocker.

I didn't read they whole thread so I'm sorry if I missed something, but it seems like a lot of folks think this automatically means Proctor is gone. If that's the case, I'm okay with the move because he can't be much worse than Proctor.

However, if we let a promising youngster walk and keep both Preston and Proctor, this might be a bad idea. I'm thinking of Bright, who Wade singled out as catching his eye in camp. I'd rather keep him than have two "Cory Proctors" on the roster.

It's an insult to call Kosier serviceable.

He is a good starting guard in this league. For whatever reason, some of you guys have been looking to replace him since we got him. I guess because he isn't some giant Larry Allen clone, he's not good enough for you guys. But it's a shame how much he is under-rated. He is a good starter... not a mere serviceable one.

I doubt Bright was going to make the 53 anyway. His destiny would seem to be the practice squad. Preston is also only 6 months older than Bright.

quit your whining,,, I never said to get rid of him and when I say serviceable I mean he's a good starter, not a pro bowler, but a good starter.

Thank you Cowboys!

Finally you see what the rest of us have seen for years.

Let Procter fidget with himself and get some other quarterback killed!

(too bad about the band breaking up....)

I think he started in Buffalo last year...Their line wasn't any good but at least he has some experience.

I suppose that if you have a backup who sucks, you might as well have a guy with alot of experience sucking at it.

My backup O-line that makes the team as of right now.

Free-LT
Preston-C/G
Holland-G
Bright-RT/G/C

I'm done with Mcquiston and Proctor. Let some young talent come in. Those projects are over. I think with the versatility that alot of the backup O-lineman give, we only keep 4 backups. 9 active O-lineman active on Sundays.

I Agree with your statement and will gladly drive Proctor to D/FW Airport.

I agree. I think he's a bit underrated but there's no way that he's the absolute most valuable on our offensive line.

Cowboys To Add Center Duke Preston
Cowboys To Add Center Duke Preston
Posted by nickeatman at 8/26/2009 2:37 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com
Looks like the Cowboys might have found their backup center. The team is expected to bring in veteran Duke Preston, an experienced backup center who spent the last four years in Buffalo, where he started 20 games, including 11 last year.
Preston signed with the Packers in March but was released on Tuesday. He also has some experience at both guard and tackle, possibly adding some versatility that Cory Procter and Montrae Holland apparently cannot.
Of course, the Cowboys have not officially signed Preston, who will likely have to pass a physical. And remember, there’s always a reason, or three, why a player is on the street. But if he can provide some depth at a few positions, particularly center behind Andre Gurode, that would be a huge boost to the line.

Kosier's underrated, and our OL probowlers are a bit overrated. I don't think it's a stretch to say that Bigg and Gurode aren't playing much better than Kosier is at their respective positions, though.

I'd agree with that assessment.

The only move that I might make at this point would be to send a late-round 2010 draft choice to New England for RT Ryan O'Callaghan.

I'm actually thinking "see ya, Holland"...
If one of the guards gets hurt for an extended time it's Holland that would get the call. He's the best backup guard on the roster. Preston finally gives them a gameday active c/g who is better than Procter. (hopefully) Even Bryan Broaddus on GAC said that he didn't like Procter and he thought he needed to be replaced.(dcfanatic has the audio) On Talkin Cowboys Brad Sham thought he might be a replacement for Procter also. He is getting 1.5 million if he's on the roster.

Why?

I don't see any backup on the roster, including the new guy being a better solution at guard.

Holland may not be able to play tackle or center, but he's started a lot of games at guard in this league. He has some limitations that he's slow, but he's much stronger than Proctor.
