Cowboys kicker Nick Folk had successful surgery on Tueday to repair a right hip labral tear. The operation was performed by Dr. Marc Phillipon in Denver.
The surgery was done on Folk's kicking leg. He can resume light kicking work in eight weeks, and the team hopes he will be able to handle his full kicking load within 12 weeks, which would make him questionable for the start of training camp.
The Cowboys drafted USC kicker David Buehler in the fifth round of the NFL draft a week and a half ago, but he is seen as more of a complement to Folk than a challenger for his job. Buehler is expected to handle the kickoff duties, while Folk will manage field goals and extra points.
The two-year veteran Folk was a Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2007, and has made 86.8 percent of his field goal tries for the Cowboys. He was 20-of-22 last season.

Well that suggest even more of a reason to draft a kicker, although I thought the kickoff specialist route was something that could provide an immediate help to the team anyway. Now Folk SHOULDN'T have to rush back since we should have a decent fill in for a few weeks if needed.
