Folk said the hip bothered him for the last five weeks of the season but thought it would improve with rest in the off-season.
I'm surprised they waited 4 months to do surgery. Knowing it was going to possibly interfere with the start of training camp, why not do it two or three weeks ago?

I feel better that ee drafted Buehler in case Folk doesnt recover or is not 100% for the opening game.

Because he thought it would get better during the off-season.

Go re-read the article again mister.

Like everyone else, he wanted to avoid the knife. There's no guarantee that he'll be "good as new," however.

Who knows maybe if Buehler kicks well in TC maybe we can flip him for a 4th, although I doubt that was the plan.

you were probably knocking the Folk selection as well, look how he turned out. My guess is that you will come around - sooner rather than later.

Not really..that was a completely different situation. We went though Jose Cortez,Vanderjagt and Gramatica.

If you need to know where to find him, he can usually be found at Bayside High...palling around with his buddies Zack, Slater, Lisa, Jessie, and Kelly. ;)

When I heard Nick Folk had hip surgery, I was surprised. I never heard him talk about any kind of soreness during last season or even this off-season.

When I heard Dr. Marc Phillipon performed the surgery Tuesday, I knew he could not have gone to a better guy. I was covering the Dolphins in 2000 when he performed hip surgery on quarterback Jay Fiedler, and Fiedler came back quickly, won the starting job and helped the Dolphins to the playoffs.

Of course, most people around here probably know he performed Alex Rodriguez's hip surgery, too.

Here's a profile on Dr. Phillipon.

I agree.

But, it is possible that Jerry and Co., wanted to avoid disclosure of the surgery before the draft.

If Folk had the surgery before the draft and if this information leaked out, it is very possible that other NFL teams might have assumed Dallas was going to select a kicker in the draft thus thwarting Dallas' overall draft strategy.

Maintaining team secrecy about player injuries and/or surgeries during preparations for the NFL draft is a public relations ploy by NFL teams--especially given the high profile nature of the Cowboys and their players, regardless of player position on the team.

Sure makes the draft look smarter. Anyone care to change their draft grade and withdraw the criticism?

still doesn't warrant drafting a K.

and lose close games like we did just a few years ago, because we couldn't get a decent free agent kicker? No thanks!

Some of these players crack me up....he's been having problems since the last 5 weeks of the season.....so why didn't he get surgery back then? Unless the doctors told him that he could get better just by resting it I don't know....but the thing was torn evidently.

Same thing with Favre....the guy, by all reports is trying to come back, but he may need surgery on his bicep.....

Get the frickin' surgeries done right after the season.

We see this every year...guys getting their surgeries done late into the off-season....seems to me that alot of them are just trying to get out of training camp.
