Some of these players crack me up....he's been having problems since the last 5 weeks of the season.....so why didn't he get surgery back then? Unless the doctors told him that he could get better just by resting it I don't know....but the thing was torn evidently.

Same thing with Favre....the guy, by all reports is trying to come back, but he may need surgery on his bicep.....

Get the frickin' surgeries done right after the season.

We see this every year...guys getting their surgeries done late into the off-season....seems to me that alot of them are just trying to get out of training camp.

First, he stated he wanted to see if it healed without going under the knife. After going through knee and hand surgeries, I can't say I blame him.

Secondly, he's a kicker. How tough do you think the camp could be? :laugh2:

I had no idea that his hip was an issue or that surgery was even a possibility. No one tells me anything.
I am sure this bit of information was strickly handled on a "need-to-know" basis :D

Cowboys kicker Folk has hip surgery, should be ready for training camp
Associated Press

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys kicker Nick Folk is recovering from surgery to repair a torn cartilage in his hip, the team announced Wednesday.

2008 Statistics
FG Attempts: 22
FG Made: 20
Long: 52 yards
The Cowboys said that Folk, a Pro Bowl selection as a rookie in 2007, should resume light kicking work in about eight weeks. They're hopeful he can handle full kicking work in 12 weeks, around the start of training camp.

The Cowboys picked USC kicker David Buehler in the fifth round of the draft last month.

Folk had surgery Tuesday in Colorado to repair a right hip labral tear, which can be caused by repetitive motions like kicking. He didn't miss a game the past two seasons.

Folk has the best field-goal accuracy rate among active kickers, making 46 of 53 (86.8 percent) in his career. He has converted all 95 extra-point attempts.

LOL...that's true huh!

However, the same is true for skill players and trench guys as well.

I really don't understand all the dislike for Beuhler. If the Cowboys were going to draft one, I would want the kicker to be a real football player that just happens to have a booming leg, but can play other positions and contribute in other ways like Beuhler can instead of a wimpy 5'2" Gramatica kicker that tears his ACL by jumping up and down after a FG. Plus with what happened to our special teams last year, I would think any improvements would be welcomed. maybe it's just me.

I hear you, this is not really that hard to understand. Look at how many games in the NFL are decided by 3 points or less. Also look at what Parcells called "hidden yardage" in terms of starting field position. We were freaking 29th in the leage in that category, that puts alot of pressure on your defense when the other team starts their drives at midfield.

So we draft the best kickoff specialist in the nation who can also fill in on FGs in case our probowl kicker needs more recovery time from his hip operation.

Seems like a dam good move in my opinion, but I am sure all these "Internet GMs" who have their panties in a wad over drafting a kicker know better.

I'm surprised they waited 4 months to do surgery. Knowing it was going to possibly interfere with the start of training camp, why not do it two or three weeks ago?

Seriously the Dallas Cowboys organization is smarter and more experienced than we are. If it took this long there had to be a reason for it, possibly including waiting for one of the best hip surgeons in the country to be available.

Why didnt they do this a month ago?

They didn't want to create a run on Beuller. We would have traded into the first to make sure we get this stud.
