Why can`t we just sign all 3 of them since they are RFAs. None are likely to be super expensive, they are all reasonably young and we don`t have much behind them on the roster to nonchalantly let one go.

I would rather do a sign and trade with one of them rather than just let them waltz their way onto another team with no compensation. So I`d tender with a second and see if they all get a bite.

If one of them gets a bite, I could let any of them walk. We could really use the pick on OL, S or even an everydown-ILB to groom behind Brooking and James.
Because media guys aren't that bright.

I want some more information from this article. I seem to remember Bowen in the game more than Hatcher. And when I noticed Hatcher in the game, I would watch him putting pressure on the QB (most of the time at least).

Bowen and Hatcher each have a value as a role player. The team can afford to keep all three because of the need to have depth at this position because they are all dependable at DE.

What's the logic in this? He's no where near the run stopper Siavii is at that position.

And for those who call these guys "decent" backups, I hate to say it, but you just don't know what you're see when you watch the games.

Our starting DEs are slightly, at best, better than our backups. And they're very good. Bowen and Hatcher are very good when they come in the game, yielding no drop off, and are potentials starters in this league without a doubt.

What is your love affair with Siavii about?

That being said, I don't want to move Bowen, think he's very good at DE. But the fact that when Bowen and Hatcher are in, we don't have much, if any, drop off in play is another reason not to draft a DE high.

My love affair: it started before last year's draft and during the preseason when people were saying he was a bum. Then I predicted, from watching tape of him last preseason, that he was actually very good against the run and will make the team (as opposed to some 5th round BIG NT that everyone was clamoring for) and he did. Just going with the underdog and knowing what I see on tape I guess.

He's replaceable. Definitely is. Just not by Bowen.

I always find it funny when people want to replace everyone on the defense like they played no part in our defense being good. Hamlin is a bum, yet we managed to have one of the best defenses in the league?

How did we manage finish 4th in the league in run D if Siavii's such garbage?

They're decent backups. Keep 'em both.

I don't know why you wouldn't until something better comes along. Right now, the only competition we have for one of the six DL roster spots is Marcus Dixon, and who knows if he'll deserve a spot.

Giving the guys second-round tenders would not obligate us to keep them around. And if someone wants to give up a second-round pick for one of them, I'm OK with that.

I really have trouble understanding why we should NOT tender offers to any of our restricted free agents. You really have nothing to lose in doing that.

Bring them to camp and let competition try to cut them.

Sure seems to me we hand out "pressures" like Candy.

Bowen had 35 and Hatcher had 27.

That means Ware had 75, with Spencer and Ratliff having 50 a piece.

Yes, I suggested that as well in the post you have quoted. 2nd round tenders for all of them. First round, if necessary, for Spears (not sure how the rules work on tendering - if they have to be the same or higher round than originally drafted).

My understanding (from what I just read) is that we can either give Spears an original pick tender (first round), a first- and third-round tender or a second-round tender. The only limit we have is that we can't give him anything less than those.

a 2nd round tender and hope a team signs him.

Sign Bowen to a contract similar to Ratt's, and move him to the starting spot . Sign Hatcher to a contract making roughly 1.5 - 2 millions for 4 years as a back up. Draft somebody in the 3rd or 4th round, bring in somebody from the free agent market ( players that are going to be cut ), and have both compete with Marcus Dixon for the other back up DE spot.

Hopefully Spears will be gone, bringing in a much needed extra 2nd round pick ( although to be honest, I don't see ANY team in the NFL who'd be willing to sign Spears to a long term contract even if he was an unrestricted FA, much less willing to give up a 2nd round pick too ), and with the money they'd save signing him, rework Ratt's contract to bring him up to the level he deserves.
