The Cowboys have been without starting free safety Ken Hamlin the past two games, and he wasn't able to practice with the team on Monday, in the first group preparation for the New York Giants.

But that could all be changing soon, according to Wade Phillips. Hamlin, who had been diagnosed as having a 2-4 week high ankle sprain, is out of his walking boot and worked out with trainers during the midday practice session.

If Hamlin respons well, the Cowboys think he might be able to back on the field on Wednesday.

"I don't know what to expect yet," the coach said. "I don't know for sure. They said this week he may be able to practice - that was last week, so I don't know.

"It sounds like (he's) on target."

Third-year defensive back Alan Ball has started the last two games in Hamlin's absence.

I think Ball has looked pretty good thus far, I'm not too worried about FS right now.

only thing worse than Ken Hamlin... a Gimpy Ken Hamlin!! nooo!!!

Anybody got the number of that thug who Tonya Harding consipired with and whacked Nancy Kerrigan's knee a while ago?:lmao2:

Yeah, I'd rather have Ball at 100% than Hamlin at 75%.

For what Ken Hamlin is getting paid I would have no problem dumping his contract and starting Ball.

I expect him to be dumped in the off-season. I would be all for going after someone like Mays in the draft. Hamlin simply is not worth what he's being paid and at times he seems like a liability. Honestly, I can't remember the last time he made a play that made me sit back in awe.

you can't remember the last time Hamlin made a play yet you'd want to go after Taylor "makes no plays" Mays?

His replacement has given up as many TDs in 2 games as he gave up in the first 9 games of the season.

Luckily we haven't faced an explosive offense that can challenge us deep since Hamlin's been out or else that number would be even more lopsided.

My initial feeling: :eek:hno::thumbdo::tantrum::eeeek::leave::explode::blech::donthear:

I am with you on this. Ball gave up a TD to Darius Heyward Bey. Hamlin has not been that bad this year and will be needed sometime the rest of this season. I don't think we should bring him back until he is completely healthy but to act like Ball is doing a great job is not true.

I think we might need Hamlin for run support against Jacobs. I'm worried if Ball has to make a solo tackle on him.

Getting Hamlin back leaves Dallas not as thin in the secondary. I like how Ball has been playing but we are an injury or 2 away from being in trouble without Hamlin.

To Adam, do you know what the cap-hit would be if we were to cut Hamlin this offseason?

I would like to upgrade our safety position with a potential playmaker, and Hamlin is far from that.
