The Cowboys have been without starting free safety Ken Hamlin the past two games, and he wasn't able to practice with the team on Monday, in the first group preparation for the New York Giants.
But that could all be changing soon, according to Wade Phillips. Hamlin, who had been diagnosed as having a 2-4 week high ankle sprain, is out of his walking boot and worked out with trainers during the midday practice session.
If Hamlin respons well, the Cowboys think he might be able to back on the field on Wednesday.
"I don't know what to expect yet," the coach said. "I don't know for sure. They said this week he may be able to practice - that was last week, so I don't know.
"It sounds like (he's) on target."
Third-year defensive back Alan Ball has started the last two games in Hamlin's absence.
