I don't care who wins as long as Proctor isn't on the field.

With any luck, Proctor gets a bus ticket out of DFW.

If you think Proctor was bad be happy James Marten is playing for Oakland now.

He is, and it did. And smart posters are still expecting him to be replaced by Holland in a straight-up competition this season. I don't get it.

Because Holland is bigger and has more size.

I don't have a problem with Holland. He looked pretty good for a few games last season and is a definite upgrade over Proctor. I just don't get why a career journeyman with weight control issues is considered an upgrade over a player who does nothing but work hard and smart and whose loss last year kneecapped the entire OL.

Ironic comment given that Holland's advantage of size would be "on paper" -- i.e., on his stat sheet. Once it comes to actually playing football Kosier has been our most consistent lineman the past 3 years.

So your Garrett hate doesn't put you in the "Holland was ready to go but Garrett wouldn't use him because Garrett is stupid" camp?

That was my point. Kosier is the better linemen, but people want Holland because he looks better on paper.

I'm on your side dude haha.

I dont get it either.

Same reason why I dont get why we refuse to get any smaller WR. I wanted DeSean Jackson in 07, but he was "too small"

If you can play, you can play. Football isn't played on paper, I think we've all learned that after last season.

Forgetting about ability for a second, it's important to note that when he was healthy, Kosier was the one making calls at the line, not Andre Gurode.

Somehow, I don't see Montrae Holland being able to do that.

I don't blame or hate Garrett. I think it's typical for coaches to be overly conservative putting a new guy in. It can be frustrating for fans, but it's understandable from a coach's perspective.

It certainly might also indicate that the new guy isn't blowing people away in practice....

I think it was Wade more then anyone else that hesitated. Remember how he was with Choice and Jones and others- always afraid to give the young guys a shot. And of course you remember his immortal words about the proctologist being the best O lineman one game.....

It might. But even when the "new guy" is outperforming the other guy in practice, I think most coaches are generally too hesitant. There's an extreme risk aversion among coaches, which is understandable.

Actually, wasn't Wade the one that sort of indirectly chastised Garrett in a press conference about not getting Felix and Choice more involved?

The most underrated player on the roster..

The offensive line collapsed when he went down.

And that is what is a bit alarming.

Losing one starting left guard shouldn't turn a quality line into an utter mess.

I still wish someone could detail why losing his "communication" made it such an issue.

I understand the step down to the likes of Cory Proctor is a problem, but it was glaring.

So is Kosier that good, Proctor that bad or is there another issue entirely with the chemistry and coaching with line that contributed?

The most common theory is that Gurode flat out suck with making line calls -- and that Kosier was a big help in that area -- Proctor being a center and having been with the team longer could help a bit as well whereas Holland, who apparently struggled to catch on to the scheme, wasn't going to help in that area.

Chemistry is part of it. Kosier did help from SOME accounts to make SOME of the calls on the line but Gurode as the center does most of that since he is the only lineman with full vision of the entire line on both sides. Bottom line is that the proctologist had to be protected and that takes away from the guys on both sides - and since Gurode had to be worried about covering for him he also probably did not work as well with Bigg - Gurode has always had a problem with being distracted and this did not help at all.
Add to that the Hotel's injuries and it was not a good time at all.

Holland is a big mauler = the kind Houck likes. So we shall see.
