Holley, Carpenter Signed To Practice Squad Posted by nickeatman at 9/6/2009 2:52 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com
Now that they've filled their 53-man roster, the Cowboys have added eight players to the practice squad, including wide receiver Jesse Holley, the reality TV winner of "4th and Long" who scored the game-winning touchdown in Minnesota Friday night.
Holley joins wide receiver Manuel Johnson, a seventh-round pick from Oklahoma as the two receivers on the squad.
Quarterback Rudy Carpenter, who played nearly three quarters Friday night in his only preseason action, is on the squad and should run the scout-team offense with Stephen McGee (sprained MCL) banged up for the next few weeks.
While the Cowboys couldn't retain fifth-round pick DeAngelo Smith, who was claimed off waivers by the Browns, they did sign Mike Mickens to the practice squad.

Here's the entire eight-man practice squad heading into the first week of the season:

TE Scott Chandler
FB Julius Crosslin

Glad we were able to keep mickens...

I don't think any of those other guys will ever amount to anything...

M Dixon could still surprise, IMO. His injury really held him back this pre-season.

Glad Mickens made it as well.

Think it could be important keeping Chandler at TE (in case of injury) since we'll probably run a lot of 2 TE sets.

I'm glad to see Holley make it to the practice squad.Atleast he'll get some more time to develop,he seems to have a good attitude towards the game.If he doesn't last on the practice squad atleast he had a chance that some people will never see.Hopefully he will make the most of the oppurtunity.

I would have liked to see us have a center on the PS. of course, the lack of any sort future prospect at C is why Free Reign is still intact.

Thank goodness they kept Tulius in tact. I was getting a little worried for a minute there. WHEW. :)

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but this is from Profootballtalk.com:

Fourth and Long" winner makes practice squad
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 6, 2009 4:34 PM ET
Maybe Jerry Jones just wants to extend the promotional brand of Fourth and Long, the Michael Irvin reality show in which Jones awarded a 80-man roster spot to the winner.

Or maybe Jesse Holley has really earned his spot on the Cowboys practice squad. (This heads-up play resulting in a 82-yard touchdown couldn't hurt.)

Whatever the reason, Holley's accomplishment indicates his presence on the training camp roster wasn't all just a stunt. Who knows, maybe Holley will even be able to do his wing-flapping touchdown dance in a game that counts someday.

The rest of your 2009 Dallas practice squad: guard Travis Bright, quarterback Rudy Carpenter, tight end Scott Chandler, fullback Julius Crosslin, defensive end Marcus Dixon, wide receiver Manny Johnson, and wide receiver Mike Mickens.

We've got three OL with center experience on the active roster.

yes. and one of them is someone who we are paying way too much for b/c we can't find any youth. if we had a center prospect on the PS then Proctor would be gone.

Stewart is a vested vet by now, so his salary would be guaranteed if he had stuck.

If J. Williams's injury doesn't come around, Stewart may reappear in several weeks, you think? ... I thought Stewart was doing good on special teams too, so double what I said.

We may be the deepest at the tight end position in the entire league. Witten, Bennett, Phillips and even Chandler is very, very solid.

We don't normally have access to 3 C during the season, do we? Recently at least, we normally roll through the season with just a guard who can play center in a pinch on the active roster, with the idea that we'd grab a veteran off the street if we needed a long-term starter. We're in a better spot than we've been in the last few years at backup C.

If Proctor sticks on the opening day roster, it's because the coaches actually think enough of him that they want to keep him even at his current price tag. I still find it hard to believe that we thought 10 OL were good enough to make this team this year.

People killed me for the Marty B tweet about Holley, Johnson, and Carpenter.

How's that crow taste? ;)
