What you quoted doesn't mean Newman has fallen out of grace or w/e...I don't necessarily disagree with you, but to question whether or not he will stay healthy is legitimate because he's been hurt so much since he's been here. Even his second year when he played I think every game (maybe missed 2 or so) he was hurt for more than half the season. The guy's a top 3 or 5 corner in the league, but that doesn't mean there aren't concerns about him.

How about the line about Scandrick being our best corner this year?

I think it was wishful thinking more than lack of appreciation for Newman. I mean who would you rather have be your best player, a 31 or a 22 yr old?

I said I don't disagree with you, I just don't think that was what the other post was saying.

I don't really see what difference it makes who is the better player or how old they are, they're both on the same team.

With all this "talent" we better be able to stop people on 3rd down.

Our defense was an epic fail on 3rd down.

Yeah, they were "only" 8th in the league in 3rd down conversion percentage allowed, at 36 per cent...

Some "epic fail"...

I have high hopes for the secondary, but I'm going to reserve judgment because there is just so much we don't know about with this group.

There is a lot of talent there, but talent doesn't always translate to success, especially when you're relying on a lot of young players.

:hammer:

One injury in seven years? Are you on crack? You actually have selective amnesia and you are calling normal people insane and ignorant. Wow, you are a strange person to say the least.

Okay..six seasons. He had a freak injury last year and missed some games..Like another poster stated:He played his first 5 seasons without missing a game. Last year was his ony year of injury problems and missing games. He still led the team in INT's. Are you going to tell me Tom Brady and Osi are injury prone now?? Because that's your logic. Next time you step up..bring your A game please..loser.

another stat that doesn't tell the whole story. we gave up some crucial 3rd downs like 3rd and 16 vs the Cards. up until that point we were dominating them on defense. than they converted that 3rd and 16 and realized they could move the ball on us. that was a huge momentum shifter.

Don't remind me of that 3rd and 16 against the Cards..:puke:

I agree that we seem to give up huge third down conversions at least one time per game. It's really frustrating. I don't know know why we elect to play zone on 3rd and 12 with 4 guys rushing the passer..that just spells disaster.

remember this one?
3rd and 16 at PIT 20(2:47) (Shotgun) B.Roethlisberger pass deep right to S.Holmes to DAL 33 for 47 yards (T.Newman).

that's Wade. his defenses put up big sack numbers(regular season) and crap like that but it's not a championship winning defense.

I remember it like it was yesterday..that's the kind of crap that gets under my skin, I just assume the Wade realizes that zone is the worst kind of coverage on third and long. I hate zone!!!

so because of one play, the defense is "epic fail"?

There were multiple times when the defense just couldn't get off the field in critical situations..hopefully the new peices and Wade pulling his head out of his *** can change that.

But, Newman made the tackle, so he must have made a good play.

I kid.

Just pointing out, yet again, that stats don't always tell the full story.

2008 Defensive stats

8th in the league is an epic fail?

<edit>Guess i should have read the entire thread so I could get to the inevitable "stats don't matter" exchange</edit>
