Eberflus should NOT return next year. With how bad our defence is, we simply can't. I think Eberflus needs to go the way of Mike Nolan, because our defence is about as bad as Nolan's. I should add. When I was in Rosemont, Illinois (suburb of Chicago) for MFF, I was talking to a lot of locals. They understood how bad Eberflus is as well. Let's just say, Eberflus is not well liked among the Bears fans I talked to while there (not surprising).

Now, given that premise, we should look at replacement options. Ultimately, this should be Schotty's decision since he's the HC. However, this is the Dallas Cowboys, so it'll probably be Jerry that makes the decision. That said, here are 5 DC options that I can think of that might be good replacements for Eberflus:

  • Brian Flores - apparently, Flores is on the last year of his deal. Now, this depends on Flores not getting a HC job (which he deserves). But, if he doesn't, we should be jumping right on Flores as our next DC. Can you imagine how much better our defence can be with a better coach and system?
  • Raheem Morris - the Falcons HC (this feels like a repeat of something) is horrible as a HC. But, he's really good at defence. The Falcons defence is good enough to where, if we get Morris, I think our defence can be really good. With how good our offense has been this year for the most part. If they can stay good and get this defence better, we might have a more balanced and more dangerous team. I think Morris would be a great choice.
  • Jim Schwartz - as a Cleveland resident, I think there's a good chance that the Browns clean house in terms of the coaching staff. If so, I think Schwartz would be great here. He usually has tough defences. He's usually very good in the trenches (albeit, having Myles Garrett helps, as did Suh in Detroit). I have been wanting him as our DC for years.
  • Bryant Haines - https://iuhoosiers.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/bryant-haines/4154 he's the DC/LB coach with the University of Indiana. He would be a change of pace. He's only 40, but he's done very well with Indiana's defence. Look what he did against Ohio State in the Big 10 Championship. Look at how good their defence has been overall. I know it's college, but it's also Indiana. I think he'd be a quietly good DC for us.
  • Jonathan Gannon - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Gannon not a great HC, but he was a very good DC for Philly. He helped create a dangerous Philadelphia dline. He's someone that I don't think fits the HC role well, but he's someone I think has shown that he knows how to be a good DC.
Rex Ryan with his time with Schotty to be the DC. It'd be cool, but I think the options I've given are better options. I wouldn't be upset with Rex Ryan, but I think any of the 5 I chose would be better options.

I'm curious who you'd all want for a DC.

Just need to stop hiring these Dungy Coaching Tree DCs. Marinelli to Eberfluss.

Ironic though that our current DC employs probably the best defense to combat our current franchise QB. LOL

DQ played a lot of Cover 3 but it almost looked like like man coverage with all the pressing.

And we also had a pass rusher on both edges who made that clock tick for the QB.

Don't think we have the talent in place to win with any DC right now.

All we have is a stout interior line that we know can stop inside runs.

Flores aint the Jones' cup of tea. They'll hire another bum retread and try to sell this fanbase that they can "scheme up" pressure.

I like Jim Schwartz. Always a good DC.

doesn't matter... Jerry does the hiring. Schotty (or any DAL HC) is forced to work with whoever Jerry wants

terrible.

No to Gannon. He's a sniveling weasel

We need a respectable tough guy

Schwartz is the best...he doesn't even want to be a head coach.. he just wants to be a no nonsense DC. He wouldn't take Jerry's crap though... so Jerry would have to respect him enough to just keep his mouth shut around him and not give him any "pointers", because J.S would tell him to ***** off and quit

Swap Gannon for Al Harris and you have a pretty good list.

Also, my vote is Al Harris, full stop.

I'm with that, though I also would be happy with the Indiana Hoosiers DC

Here is my list that I’ve been posting to these threads

  1. Jim Schwartz - DC Browns. - If they clean house and don’t promote him, he’s the best there is. Three top ten defenses are in his coaching tree
  2. Brian Flores - DC Vikings - they would have to clean house and he’s suing the NFL, so he’s a million to one long shot but he’s terrific
  3. Jim Leonhard - Asst HC/Defensive pass game coordinator - Broncos - if we can’t have Vance Joseph, give me one of his guys - this is my ideal choice if I can’t luck out with Schwartz
  4. Rob Leonard - D-Line coach/run game coordinator - Raiders - Vegas players love him. Worked under Flores.
  5. Christian Parker - DBacks/passing game coordinator - Eagles - very young, “phenom” type talent. Risky, but he’s been under Fangio
  6. Dave Merritt - DBacks - Chiefs - five time champion on Soagnuolo’s staff. In his 50s but great at developing secondary talent
  7. Al Harris - I only put him here cause you’ll see his name a million times. I wouldn’t hire him. Our defense wasn’t good last year with him and in my opinion, Chicago’s success, including their DBs, is due to Dennis Allen

Any name u put out there you need to ask yourself would Jerry hire this person? Do they have any ties to Jerry or Dallas? Do they have a strong personality? If the answer is no, you can forget about it (minus the personality one).

Further more, Jerry will bring him back
