I think age is definitely the reason why most are not, just like it was last year. And why he didn't get a job until October. But the fact is that once he hot a job, he was an ultra-productive part-time pass rusher who had 8 sacks in 11 games, including a strip-sack/fumble that sealed Arizona's playoff win against Minnesota.

All I'm hearing from people around this team is that 'they want yo see what they have in the young guys', which is a bunch of **** to me. They can do that all they want and still add a proven veteran. The two things aren't mutually exclusive.

If one of the young guys miraculously looks better? Fine. Keep him and cut Freeney before the season starts. But even the biggest Homer Simpson on this board can't honestly believe that has a chance of happening.

This team's biggest weakness and need is pass rush, and it's obvious.

Adding a aging veteran that's bad enough not to be re-signed by his previous team but good enough to get playing is just a young players profession stopper.

Not saying I agree that we are set, just thinking the staff feels they are ok there.

"OK" is not very inspiring imo. The coaching staff probably knows Jerry's not going to invest $$$ into the DE position at this time. Maybe later into training camp, but not now.

An "aging veteran" who would have led this sorry bunch in sacks despite playing in just 11 games. That's fact.

Anything else is opinion.

Freeney is even $$$$$. He played for about $1 million last year, peanuts for that production.

Another reason Steve Keim is a respected GM and Jerry Jones isn't.

I never understood this argument. The "it's better than nothing" argument. We have a few young guys who we want to see have any talent. We need to see what we have in Gregory or Lawrence, Irving, Ben........there are some guys here. Youthful guys. I'd rather build my team on youthful guys then aging veterans.

Yet, Jerry is the one who won executive of the year two years ago lol. If Keim is truly respected as a GM I'm sure it has to do with those other solid moves they made and Freeney is probably at the end of that list.

Talk about "never understood", this is it.

How does Freeney's presence stop any of the young guys from showing they can play? Oh, that's right, it doesn't. If any of them show anything, they'll have their chance, if they don't, they won't. And it won't be because of anything Freeney does for himself.

8 sacks off the street sure looks better than the egg Jerry has on his face after Greg Hardy!

And Chris Johnson vs Joseph Randle is a first round TKO!

Because if you spend money on Freeney you are spending it because either you don't like what you have at defensive end or spending it with intention of him getting snaps. I feel like that's what's current hurting us at tight end. Drafting tight ends that can't develop because Witten is getting most of the reps.

McFadden had a better year then Chris Johnson lol. And I'd much rather have a unrusty Greg Hardy in his 20s than a over the hill Freeney. You make him sound like he's still in his prime. He got 3 sacks in a blowout and now he's the one to solve our defensive problems. How about our 2nd round picks get us 8 sacks this year that we invested in?

Of course, but the cost is not much more than league minimum given cap adjustments. Arizona got 8 sacks for next to nothing last season, why shouldn't this team do desperately in need of any an all pass rush help they can get?

I feel like that's what's current hurting us at tight end. Drafting tight ends that can't develop because Witten is getting most of the reps.

Or maybe it's because the team isn't using those tight ends to their full potential?

McFadden had a better year then Chris Johnson lol.

With several mitigating factors, including the offensive line both played with and of course injury.

And I'd much rather have a unrusty Greg Hardy in his 20s than a over the hill Freeney.

So would I, but let me know if that becomes an option again

You make him sound like he's still in his prime. He got 3 sacks in a blowout and now he's the one to solve our defensive problems.

Nobody has ever tried to make the claim that "he's still in his prime" so please don't try to make things up.

That would be great if it happens. It would also be great if those "2nd round picks" were actually available to play for the entire season, but they're not.

Lawrence had a good year, but Marinelli himself said that thanks to Hardy's presence, Lawrence faced the fewest double teams in the league. He won't have that luxury this year.

And, interesting fact, Lawrence got 8 sacks while playing in over 66% of the team's defensive snaps in 2015.

Freeney got his 8 sacks while playing in less than 25% of Arizona's defensive snaps.
