I don't agree its bandaid surgery but it is not guaranteed. There are other procedures along with penetrating subchondral bone. No one is even thinking replacement right now and not likely for some time.
Of course not talking replacement right now...thus the band-aid analogy. Replacement is the next progression when micro fails...so says my neighbor at least: a ortho surgeon with HEAVY ties to at least 3 SEC teams. An example (for what it's worth) is a nameless (for obvious reasons) player who's micro (performed by my neighbor) failed two years post...now he is a 25 year old sporting a new joint. Granted, one example...but my point is that micro is a last ditch effort for an athlete. Failures FAR outweigh any successes.The procedures you're suggesting work for the rest of us...not professional athletes. The repair can't hold with the kind of abuse it will see in football. I'll still hold to my original stance on a contract for Spencer - none.
