My column today on dallascowboysnation.com:

So what now?

The Cowboys have a well-paid cornerback who took a Molly, an owner who partied with a pair of Mollys, and a understudied son who partied with a busload of Mollys, not to mention the NFL head of officiating. Mix that stench with the aroma of a durian defensive performance, and you have fan hope draining like a Medieval bloodletting.

The annual Cowboys Camp Soap Opera has been in rare form. Amidst it all sits Jason Garrett and his staff, trying to implement a sense of football normalcy to a roster hopefully not built solely on offense.

Cowboys normally have drama and have well before Jerry bought the team. I think it was Dwayne Thomas who said almost every SB Dallas went to started with drama and some controversy. Heck Thomas was not even talking to teammates was traded and then ended up right back in Dallas yet they went on to win the SB. I think the main difference today is excessive media coverage and social media.

Not of this nature, they didn't. Yes, I know there was a Duane Thomas or Hollywood Henderson along the way, but there was always the principled foundation of Landry to keep the ship in order.

Nowadays, with Jerry at the center of much of the controversy again and again, this thing is a ship without a captain. And he won't hire another Parcells type and relinquish his party train. Will McClay and Garrett are about as much as Jerry will give in.

ship in order? there was a lot going on, according to players like Garrison, parties guys getting drunk and getting into fights differance was there was no 24 hour news cycle taking place. As for who Jerry will hire sorry I don't buy into the whole puppet thing, you may disagree with his hires but I don't think he makes hire based on who he can push around. I think that is how some fans feel and that fine that is there opinion.

Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett.......? This is the Dallas Cowboys, not the Toronto Raptors.

Parcells helped build a stadium. Never will that much power be relented again under Jerry.

And there's quite a difference between partying 24-year-old players and a drunken owner taking selfies in the bathroom with strippers.

I think there was always Drama and in some cases even more (white house, irvin and his shennanigans, Hollywood and more)...thing is now that the Press will tell the stories instead of keeping hush hush about them and we also have everyone and their grandma on twitter or with a camera phone putting stuff out on the web.

and yet Parcells views on Jerry are so much different than that of fans who do not know Jerry, you guys talk this stuff as if you are there behind closed door and know fact is you don't you have an opinion which is fine.
Chan Gailey has been a HC as had Wade Phillips both with some success, Campo like many coordinators who have had success got a shot at HC he failed no one would even question that but then he would not be the first coordinator to get a HC job and fail. Jason Garrett is someone who Jerry knew and respected even guys like Johnson and Aikman felt Garrett was capable of coaching. Will it work or not? I don't know but one thing for sure Jerry is giving him every oppertunity to succeed not hiring and firing as quickly as many fans would do. If you hire a person you do so because you believe in them so then why would you not support them and give them every oppertunity to succeed?

The issue is, how many other GM's would hire JG? Right from the start? You have a guy that basically did nothing as the QB coach in Miami and you want to promote him to OC the likes of Romo, TO, Witten and co? I don't think so. I am sorry but anyone else out there would never have given JG his shot with the experience he had. You speak of Parcells saying differently from the fans...well, we will never know the truth because that could be he's got some class...and I don't even like Parcells...

Parcells has never been shy about giving his views of people or an organization regardless if you like him or not. The differance is fans views we are not there we are not in the meeting we are not involved so the information we have is limited, yes we all have opinion and there is nothing wrong with that but the opinions are based on limited information and in the case of Parcells it is first hand information he was there. As for Garrett you could be right but again it comes down to hiring people you believe in and respect and once you do then you will back your guy which Jerry has you will give him time which Jerry has. It falls to Garrett to get it done, he has been given a fair shot at getting it done. I make no excuses for him he has to step up and get it done.

That is certain. If you are a Cowboys fan and have not read North Dallas Forty you probably should.

That really is the major differance.

Drama is fine if you're winning, winning covers it up and people look the other way. If you have drama and are losing it can become a full blown circus and disaster, the Eagles with the dream team and the Jets with Tebow are just a couple examples of that.

True, but I don't see any bathroom stripper picks or party busses full of 21-year-old girls for other owners and their sons. Other than Irsay that is.

This is very true winning cures a lot. Having said that to me it comes down to what kind of drama in house where it is affecting team or outside drama meant for the fans? Outside drama I don't care about.
Scandric situation clearly is in house drama since it's affect directly impact the team.

The Jerry drama affects the team more than anything, and has for 17 long years. Culture is the most important thing in any organization, and it comes from the top.

Garrett is trying his best to change it, but Jerry undermines him at every turn.

Debartolo did a lot worse.

But he let his head coach be the voice and leader of the team. He didn't discuss depth charts and injuries and whatnot with reporters. He let Bill Walsh handle it.

Wade Phillips has never been offered a head coaching job in the NFL, except from Jerry. Same for Campo, and other than the ding-dong Bills, neither has Chan Gailey. Wade was just an interim guy when others were fired or had to leave for medical reasons. Jerry likes cheap no-names rather than high-dollar guys that he has to relinquish power to because of their contracts.
